I have had my steroid drops changed. It seems that the ones I had been using since December have not been agreeing with me.
On the upside (I think), they have booked me into an operating theatre on November 5 so that they can start taking out my stitches ... I start with 16.

There may be a delay because the theatre at our local hospital has been closed since a bacterial contamination of the air supply was found.

I saw my consultant this week, and it does look as though my astygmatism has stabilised. For the first time in nearly three years, I can come off the steroid drops too!

All I need now is a new specs prescription and (in the new year, probably) a nice new scleral lens and I'll be laughing - and hopefully, driving again too!

I do the stupid thing on my way to the clinic of rehearsing in my mind the words I want to hear the consultant speak. I go through phrases like this, "Everything looks fine, we'll just remove all the stitches", or, "No more need to use steroid drops", or far better still, "Your sight has recovered wonderfully well; we don't need to operate on your left eye and you can start driving again".
The problem is that I build myself up for a massive disapointment when the surgeon is more cautious.
Still it is good to know that somebody else is likely to hear the words, "You can drive again". It encourages me to continue my little day dream!

Worth being cauteous when the doctor says you can drive!

In March, I noticed my right eye detereorating, despite having had 2 grafts which are now 16 years old. It is a part of the old cornea that remained that has started to fail, but I was OK to drive.

Got this confirmed in July to make sure I was OK to go on a driving holiday to Germany and back which would include racing round the 14 miles of the Nurburgring.

See the specialist two weeks later who said I was luck not have had an accident considering I was relying soley on one eye to judge corners while driving a 30 year old sports car!!!

On the brighter side, only two more weeks and I should have some contact lenses and be able to take my car to the Classic Car Show at the NEC myself and not rely on my wife to do it for me.
