Mention sods law. Just bought myself an old 1968 VW Beetle the other week. Had been managing with my fairly large lenses. Then a couple of days on my first attack of the nasty hydrops!!

So bad it was, the consultant at the QMC Nottingham has put me on priority for a graft. I should be having it in about 5 weeks.

So there goes the car for a while. The only gain is the fact that its tax exempt. Other than that I will be pouring money down the drain for insurance whilst I am not driving.

And for the operation, how soon will i be able to return to work, in the lively DWP !? I dont want to ask for a long period of time off.

typical NHS. They are going to wait several months for the hydrop to pass, then reevaluate then.

You have my sympathy! Try finding somewhere to park car off the road and reducing insurance to third party, fire and theft. This is what I did when I couldn't drive for 18 months - 2 years after grafts. I parked on my very short drive and would go out and start it from time to time and reassure it I'd be back soon! Always started first time!! Saved me lots of dosh.

My Beetle shouldnt mind being left dormant for a while, its 10 years older than me, so its 36yrs old and passes its MOT better than many modern vehicles.

However I wont be able to not drive it for 2 years. I will just have to hope the graft goes well and I am adaptable!

At least it will give some time to save up for a new engine for her.
