Hi,
I've just reluctantly accepted the offer of a Corneal Graft under local anaesthetic having been told that if i want general anaesthetic i would have to wait 2 - 2 1/2 years! Can anyone out there give me some idea of what sort of waiting times other areas have. My surgery will be carried out in Manchester.
Thanks

Hi Dave,
I am on a waiting list to have a graft in Sheffield and was told that an appointment for theatre would mabye come through about christmas time this year..was put on the waiting list at the beginning of the summer (sometime in June). Im not sure if the intended grfat will be general or local. I was expecting it to be general, but I have only seen the consultant once and was a bit shocked about the suggested graft and wasnt really thinking of all the questions i needed to ask, I also wasnt thinking I would actualy have it...it is only in the last month or so that the reality has sunk in and i have been looking into things and now have an endless list of questions ready to ask next time I see him.
Two and a half years seems a long wait, but maybe sheffield were just being hopeful when they suggested a time slot would become available around christmas.
I would be interested to hear how things go so keep us posted
Thanks
Sophie

Dear Dave
I was on the waiting list at Oxford for 6 months before I got my graft done under a general anaesthetic. The hospital had a waiting lists office which you could call to check progress, who were very helpful. They might have something similar in Manchester.
Good Luck

Hello
I have recently been offered a graft by the Royal Bolton Hospital however, as yet are not planning to take them up on the offer. lots of other things have been going on alongside my KC and I want these to settle down before I take the surgery step.
With regards to the surgery I was told it would be a general anaesthetic and that there was no waiting list as such. They seemed to indicate it could be done pretty quicky if I wanted to take them up on the offer.
Seems strange how things vary so much from area to area, the good old post code lottery I expect.
