Hi

i eventually got seen by occupational health for work. (been waiting since september) and the chap i went to see, just asked questions about work etc and said that i should have someone come round and do a workplace assesment for me.
But he had a quick look in my eyes with the hand held thingy( sorry couldn't remember what it's called) he asked whether anyone had mentioned the possibility of having a membrane covering the back of my eye. I haven't had this mentioned to me and i didn't know whether anyone else had experienced this? Is this something to do with KC or is it something completely different, and also how come no one else has mentioned this before. i have an appointment to see the contact lens people on tuesday, but would like to know a bit more before i go. Can anyone help?

Id get this checked out...if its Retinal.....in fact Id get it checked out full stop...

This is just one example of something similar..and it could be that this has nothing to do with what was referred....but back of the eye, and retina are generally interchangeable terms...

Yes i agree with Jay, i would get it checked out as well. I haven't heard of this before, but it is always best to get things checked rather than worrying about it.

Go to see your ophthalmologist. It may be that (s)he will put your mind at rest by telling you what your OH specialist at work meant.

If there is something that needs attention, then waiting will not make it go away!

Think you should get it checked out. The opthamologist can make sense of what the OT technician has said.

If teh guy lookg in your eye knows nothing about KC, he could just have been seeing ghosting from the distorted light from the thing he was using to look in your eye.

The site doctor here said he would not bother looking at my eyes because I knew practically zero about KC and would not know what he was looking at anyways.

At least he was honest and organised the assesment for me.

It could well be nothing, I am sure all the hospital visits we get, it would have been picked up there.

I wouldnt worry too much about this. Cataracts are sometimes referred to as "membrane growing over the eye" by lay people, and I guess this chap wondered if you might have a cataract as he couldnt get a good view of the back of the eye due to your KC. I've come across patients with KC referred for suspected cataracts on more than one occasion, usually by GPs but sometimes by optoms who should know better!
