woke up yesterday and my left eye, which was the better of the two, didn't feel right, more blurred than normal. Put my lens in and nothing, it was as if someone has stuck a blob of Vaseline in my eye. Went the the A&E on advice of Rayner's who deal with me. Saw a nurse and explained that I suffer from KC and was worried. She said she had no idea what it was and called the Doctor. Now not being racist or anything but this doctor with a very strong African accent arrived. Looked at my eye and then scrubbed it over with a cotton bub. I tried to explain to him that I have KC but he just grunted and carried on. My eye was now killing me. Today I went to my GP who listened to me, placed some dye in my eye and examined me, he said I have an ulcer on the Corina, poo i thought this is bad, and straight away he phone the eye clinic to speak to a specialist. After they had a debate he then told me to go there first thing tomorrow and get it looked at. As the specialist agreed over the phone that this is what it might be.

Now I'm very very very annoyed with the local A&E for not listening to me and scrubbing my eye with a Q Tip.

What are the chances of it clearing up ? Is there any problems I should brace myself for ?

Hi Dave, I gave myself a corneal ulcer last christmas after accidently falling aslepp with my softperm lens in (it was exam time and I was tired!) and woke up in the morning took it out..was ok at first, just a bit uncomfy then it started to become absolute agony went to my doc who sent me to the local eye hospt. They were convinced I hadnt taken the lens out it had left such a mark and said I had a very large ulcer it was very painful! anyway they treated it with eye drops that relaxed it i think and stopped the pain, lubricant and antibiotic drops. First couple of days i had to use it twice hourly..oh yes that included the night so had to set an alarm and keep waking up to put them in, then for the rest of the week had to continue during the day. Obvisouly no lens wearing, but it did get better pretty quickly.

hope this helps it stops being painful very quickly once you get the drops in.

Also relaxes one of your pupils so gives you one very large pupil whilst the other one remains at a normal size! kept my house mates amused anyway!

I take it it cleared up after a while ? cool thats good to know.

I thought I was having a rough time but you seem to be as well, it stinks doesn't it? Who knows what will happen next.

By the sounds of it you have something that I was told several years ago could never happen (I asked as the cornea thinned would the eye burst eventually) Have they managed to give you any more news or advice on any posible treatment?

You must be really fed up, Iam sure I would be. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Are you sure its an ulcer and not corneal herpes simplex?
