Pressing fingers against eye in order to watch the tv

Yes I know this sounds weird and I thought I was the only one till I mentioned it to Vic and she has had the same experience. Before my first graft I would sit in front of the tv and the only way I could see it was to press my finger against my eye [against the lower eyelid].
I guess this directly changed the shape of the cornea.
I was wondering whether anyone else has experienced this?

[Maybe there's a new product here....head band with attached implement for pressing against the eye!!]

Yeeesssss! Oh boy - and I thought it was only me that did daft things like that! I also used to move a piece of card or something similar up in front of part of my eye from the bottom - until I could see the TV as clear as daylight! That's not working so well now my KC is progressing. And I did find it difficult holding and drinking from a glass of red at the same time............

Hey Louise
Can't say that I've ever tried that before but I just had a trial go. With my bad eye I couldnt see any of the computer screen. Pushed the lower lid as you described and it was as clear as day. My husband has just looked up, shook his head and carried on watching the telly.
Oh well he's used to me doing strange things in order to get best possible vision.
LOL

Thanks Libby, Andrew, Pat, this is interesting.
I can still see a market for a 'lower eyelid presser' device so you can be hands-free!

Yep me too, it works better on my ungrafted eye.
Perhaps we should try it next time we have to read the eye chart, and see if we get any extra lines!!

but then they would have to fit you with glasses with a device to press on your eyelid!!

presumably you've all tried the Pinhole test as well? My vision is brilliant with that too.

Nothing worked as well as finger against the eyelid pre-graft

Health Warning

Althoug some of us have used this technique, it is probably not to be ad vocated as a solution, even temporary, to poor vision associated with KC.

I did once tell an optometrist that I did this and he snorted and said "tut tut".
