hey all
I have just tried to get some steripod blue saline on prescription but i have been told i have to pay for it. I'm a student at uni so i thought i would'nt have to, is this right?also Is amidose still unavaliable on prescirption?

This is a very thorny subject, some eye units prescribe solutions others do not.
A memeber of the comittee got this question asked in parliment and because our lenses are essential then we are entitled to solutions on prescription.
The problem is how to get it inforced. Most here would prefer proper communication between eye unit and GP so that we can get a repeat prescription from the GP rather than keep going back to an overworked eye unit.

I think the reason it is not publicised is because the hospitals are either unaware or because they feel our sight can be corrected with glasses to a point which would mean we are not entitled.
It is not clear cut which is why we are looking at how a suitable structure can be put in place enabling us to get the solutions on prescription and that only those who are entitled do so.

On the whole subject of NHS prescriptions, it is probably worth repeating that we have, in the UK four different jurisdictions.
ENGLAND
(WALES) different pricing regime
SCOTLAND different policy constraints ... eg NICE does not seem to apply here.
NOTHERN IRELAND different policy constaints again.
The Scottisn and N Ireland differences are not a consequence of devolution; these have always been separate jusridictions for health. In the old dispensation Scottish Health was covered by the Scottish Office (now the Scottish Executive) and not the whitehall Department of Health.
