hi,
went back to the opticians again today, ( have been seeing him every 2 weeks while they try to sort out the correct lens for me)
i explained that i was experiencing problems with my right eye and that it wouldn't focus properly. this was checked out and i have now been told that i have got one type of lens left to try before i have to be referred back to the eye hospital for hard contact lenses.
am feeling a bit sorry for myself as i thought that because i was older, that KC wouldn't progress to me needing hard lenses.
i know that i'm probably worrying about nothing, but this is still quite new to me as it was only confirmed that i had this in april this year. sorry, i just needed to have a bit of a whinge.

Hi (from another Southamptoner), sorry to hear you're a bit down - when I was first diagnosed I went straight to hard (RGP) lenses, completely bypassing glasses and soft lenses, so I basically knew no different. It may seem daunting, but it just becomes part of life, and hopefully not a defining factor.

Unfortunatly with KC no one can predict if it will stabilise and if it does change how quick.

To be honest there are so many different varients of RGP lens, there is the standard toric lens, Rose K, Rose K II, Soft-perm, Scleral so in the world of RGP lenses you still have many to go at.

I have the rose K lenses which are moulded more to the shape of the cone and with the use of a lubricating eye drop for another eye problem I get excellent vision, really good comfort and averag 12 hours lens wear.

Whenever i feel daunted by it all, I have a rant here and then consider all the good things I canstill do without lenses and the things I can do with the lenses too.

Never dwell on the negative, always cnocentrate on the positives and I find it has really helped me and it still does.

I have never got any vision with glasses or soft lenses, so have worn hard lenses from the age of 14 so i don't know anything else. Most people are the same and find that hard lenses are needed.

If you are wearing soft lenses then there is no real difference except for the material it is made from! If you have mastered putting lenses in and taking them out, then you will find it no problem. If they do hurt which mine do then you can use a piggy back system where you wear a plain soft lens underneath.

A lot of people get better vision with hard lenses, so hopefully you will be the same! Take it easy and let us know you get on. Best of luck ... Sweet X x X
