Seeking Your Input on CAIRS Treatment for Keratoconus

Postby Anne Klepacz » Tue 22 Oct 2024 10:13 am

Some of you will have read about the new CAIRS treatment in our Summer 2023 and Spring 2024 newsletters https://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/in ... wsletters/
similar to Intacs or Ferrara Rings, but using sterile corneal tissue. I don't know whether this is yet available on the NHS, but we have been asked to post this message by Lisa from Keranatural.
Dear Keratoconus Group,
I am currently collaborating with VisionGift, the developers of KeraNatural sterile tissues, which are used in Corneal Allograft Intracorneal Ring Segment (CAIRS) procedures for the treatment of keratoconus. My objective with this message is not to promote or advertise any products, but rather to seek your input so that we may better educate patients looking for information on CAIRS.
I have noticed that many keratoconus patients face significant challenges when trying to find reliable information about available treatments. This can be especially true for newer procedures like CAIRS, which often leave patients with many unanswered questions. It is essential for patients to have access to comprehensive information so that they can make informed decisions about their treatment options, and we believe that education should come from physicians familiar with both the disease and the treatments available.
With this in mind, I would like to ask: what are your biggest questions regarding CAIRS? Are there answers about CAIRS you’ve been searching for on the internet or elsewhere that you can’t seem to find? To address this, we are in contact with numerous surgeons who perform CAIRS (using a variety of tissue options) and are eager to help clarify common concerns. We would like to gather questions and give them to these surgeons to create some short educational resources (e.g., videos, articles, etc.).
If you would like to submit a question, please use the link below. We will do our best to address as many inquiries as possible in our upcoming materials.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
