ill-fitting sclerals

Postby ChrisA » Tue 05 Jul 2022 12:30 pm

Hi. Why does it seem impossible for my lens specialist to find sclerals that fit me? No problem for 22 years while using Innovative Sclerals versions - now constant discomfort resulting in limited wearing time and subsequent impact on life's activities.

Hi Chris and welcome,
Have a look at page 10 of our Spring 22 newsletter https://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/in ... wsletters/ where we raised exactly this problem. Since another company took over the manufacture from Innovative Sclerals, it looks like they altered the material used. We've had several other similar reports from our members which we're passing on to Innovative Sclerals.

Are you being seen at a hospital or elsewhere? It could of course be the material, but towards the end of my Innovative Scleral wearing, fitting became increasingly challenging and sometimes requiring refits every 6 months. There are fitting guides and best practices that Optoms work to, but sometimes the front of the lens needed to be further away from the eye compromising between a comfortable fit and acceptable vision.
