DALK Done

Hi All,

Well, I'm back for a while (still leaving Gareth in charge until I can look at a screen for long enough!)

Had the DALK on Friday, and had the eyelid fastened shut with a plastic staple. Had the staple out today.

Vision is dire at the moment, and the eye just won't stop watering (which was a right pain when the eyelid was firmly closed!)

Not too much pain (though I'd be lying if I said there was none; there's certainly more pain now than I'd had after the PK graft in the other eye)

Worst problem at the moment is photophobia... or rather changes in light... as I go into a bright room, the iris contracts and that hurts. Still, getting a bit better tho.

Managed to take a couple of photos, and I'll put them up in a blog in the next day or so (when I can stop looking at this horribly white screen :-( )

Note to self. Create a light-on-dark colour scheme for the forum!

Write more later. Thanks to everyone for the wishes of goodwill.

John,
Great to hear from you. Hope you continue to heal and get a good result!
All the best

Note John

do not create a light on dark coolour screen for the forum, that would turn my "negative image" screen into dark on light and give me the sort of discomfort your standard screen is giving you!

Seriously, it is really good to see you back. All the best.

I look forward to reading your blog and seeing your pics.\

Andrew

Great stuff!! When was you able to open the eye?...or do you still feel better with it closed?

Glad to hear everything went well. :D

Is the stapling shut routine now? It sounds, to say the least, very uncomfortable. :( With both of my grafts I had a pad over my eye until the following day and that was it.

Got the eye open for the first time yesterday. Still keeping it closed though, as it makes seeing easier(!)

Also managed to fall down the stairs today :-( Shows how much 3D vision I (don't) have at the moment.

I've put a mini-blog online (that's an on-line diary for the luddites who've not come across blogging yet  ), complete with a few photos for those who want to read more. Please do ask questions, and I'll update it before making it a proper link from the main site.

I can see, unfortunately, that having KC can lead to a lack of 3D vision.

3D vision is a prerequisite for using stairs.

Therefore, KCers are more likely to fall down the stairs than "normal" folk.

QED. No rumours required...
