contact lenses + cold sores

Postby grewski » Mon 31 Jan 2022 4:14 pm

Hi wondering what the guidance is for wearing contact lenses while you have a cold sore on the mouth, Should you avoid wearing contacts to prevent cross-contamination from touching?

It would be safe to say you don't want a cold sore (herpes) in your eye. However your lens is not of itself going to cause this, it is really about treatment of the cold sore and good cross-infection control.

"good cross-infection control" as in hand washing?

Exactly - couple of rounds of "Happy Birthday", plus maybe sanitiser, but don't get that in your eye either.
