Five(ish) months post graft update

Hi!

Have been back for another followup appointment today.

Vision is good apart from some ghosting, can manage five lines on the snellen in the grafted eye with pinholes.

Consultant is happy and says that the graft is going very well and that next time we will probably be thinking about suture removal.

Have to return in three months time and continue on the Maxidex once a day until then.

So things are good on the eye.

I do now have an amazing photo where you can see the loops of the stitches and the knots, once I can extract it from the wifes PC I will bung it on the web and post a link here - its humoungous so don't want to upset John.

Life is good just incredibly busy, so sorry I haven't been around for a while.

Anyway take care folks and I will attempt to appear more frequently, and no I won't forget the picture.

It amazes me how long everyone is on the steroids post graft!

20 years ago I was only on them for 3 months, now it seems the going rate is at least 9!

Anyone know the reason why?

Yes please; do post the pic - it would be very interesting I'm sure.

I agree Gareth - I'm still on the steroids following my first graft in 2002. Unfortunately, I'm still on them because of rejection episodes. It'll be interesting to see how I go with the DALK graft next week

It is not that humoungous now I have cropped it right down to chop off my eyebrow and fingers.



Sorry if it is not quite in focus, though it isn't bad considering it was taken with a compact cam as an experiment with the macro mode. Took about four goes to get that - used one hand to force eye open in bright sunlight and held the camera around 6-7 cms away waited for it to auto focus (manual focusing was not an option ) and hit the button.

A Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 - 10MP compact camera (around £250 if you shop around).

I bought it for the wife for her birthday as our old Fuji was old and big and this new one is "girly small" (to quote the wife) and fits nicely in her handbag - she is always snapping away. Anyway it occurred to me that being 10MP the macro mode does not need to be great it just needs to work and I guess the results speak for themselves.

well thats def a good camera! im still on the hunt for one!...but that looks a good go-er! better investigate!

its kool that you can even make out the little knots as I had not seen them that much...and I just zoomed in as well and it still holds a good res!!

I guess that medical knowledge has advanced and that they feel there is a better chance of success with extended steroid usage. Unfortunately we dont have access to the stats and figures for rejection rates etc over the last 20 years so we can run our own analysis.

You may (dare I say it) be quite a rare specimen.

That's a fantastic photo Paul.

I can't recall exactly how long I was putting drops in my eyes after my grafts but it wasn't for very long at all. If pushed I would have said two months tops. That things have changed explains a few things though. I always get asked if I'm putting any drops in on my hospital visits and get a slightly surprised/confused look when I say I haven't put any in for years and years, and I wonder why they ask me - especially as they have my notes in front of them!
