In theatre, but a local anaesthetic presumably? Both the anaesthetic and the clamps they sometimes have to use to keep your eye open during the procedure can cause local swelling and redness. Regular pain relief will probably ease things a bit but usually settles in a few days. Call them if you are still concerned.

Most eyelid retractors are going to work something like this https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Eye-retractors-and-applicator-positioning-for-superficial-radiotherapy-treatment-SXRT_fig3_324008095. So you will note there is quite a bit of stretching and pressure on the external areas of the eye.

Do call them if you are concerned.
