Hi guys
Hope everyone is good
I have ongoing problems with giant pappilary conjuctavitus (gpc), has been going on for more than a year now
The hospital and doctors have given me multiple eye drops and stronger antihistamine and antibiotics to deal with this but I am still struggling with my contact lenses
Any advice on how to deal with this as quickly as possible?
Many thanks
Giant pappilary conjuctavitus

Re: Giant pappilary conjuctavitus
I'm hoping an optometrist might reply to this, but in the meantime this comes from the summary of a talk we had from a specialist at one of our meetings a few years ago -
"Giant papillary conjunctivitis can be caused by ‘gungy’ lenses.
Antihistamines and steroids are used to treat GPC, but again simple measures will help avoid it occurring for example -
Replacing contact lenses every two years avoids build up of deposits on the lens.
Using preservative free cleaning systems
Lens and lid cleaning with products such as Amiclear protein cleaner and Lid Care
These measures are worth taking even before there are any symptoms."
You can read the full article which has lots of good general tips about lens wear in the Spring 2011 newsletter which you'll find in the publications section of the home page of this website.

Re: Giant pappilary conjuctavitus
Hi,i have permanent GPC,I've worn lenses for 25 years, the last 5 years with mini sclerals,i developed GPC about 7 years ago.
I went through all antihistamines, drops, steriods etc, nothing worked,i now get steroid injections every 6 months in each eye to help smooth out the lumps, they do help reduce the severe irritation but don't last long. Not a pleasant experience but worth it,This is done through the NHS,
My consultant says they are caused by wearing lenses for so long,i have no choice as my vision is so poor.
