Anyone had stem cell transplant then cornea graph ?

Postby philip cooper » Sat 25 May 2019 10:28 am

I had a alkali injury 15 years ago and have wore a painted schlera contact lens for cosmetic purposes . I got offered stem cell treatment on 14 May to get the limbal workimg and get ocular surface coveted in eplithelium . Then 8 months later a cornea graph.

So all excited on the list. Then yesterday I got a perforated cornea.

Currently got it glued to heal.

Has anyone had a stem.cell.transplant and cornea graph in one go ?

Could this perforation jepodise my surgery now ?

I know yous cannot answer in detail on a forum but just after some info if anyone has been in my situation .

I hope this doesn't prove to be a set back for you. Stem cell treatment is very exciting, but it's not something that's offered for keratoconus as far as I know. Our condition is when the cornea thins and bulges out affecting the vision, but it doesn't involve the sort of damage that you experienced with your injury. So some of us do have corneal grafts but not stem cell treatment, at least not yet. But we wish you all the best!
