Photosensitivity suggestions

Postby Green » Fri 15 Feb 2019 2:04 pm

I'm seeking suggestions.
My photosensitivity is high at the moment so even with the darkest wrap around polarised sunglasses I need to put my hand over the top of my glasses to block the light

I've found an alternative to wearing a hat when the sensitivity is so bad that even with polarised dark glasses I'm putting my hand over the top. There are 'over glasses' which have a bit over the top to stop light getting in and filled in at the sides. They're designed for wearing over prescription glasses but work for total block out over the top which wrap arounds don't quite achieve. I got them from Boots. Not high fashion but I don't care if it means I'm not blinded by light.
So I've got these, the dark wrap arounds, the lighter indoor ones, x2 sets of reading glasses and lens gear bloody hell I need trolley case just for eyes!

Your post reminded me of a lady who visited the KC desk at Sight Village. She wore a pair of brown over glasses that completely boxed in her prescription glasses. I tried them on and they completely covered the top and sides. I thought she said that she got them from Moorfields but I can't find them on their web site nor on the RNIB website.

I therefore, looked at Amazon and found these: DUCO Men's and Women's Polarised Wrap Around Fit-Over Sunglasses over Prescription Glasses 8953

They arrived last weekend in time for the very bright sunshine and I must say they are great. So much so that my wife tried them and kept them on while we were driving directly into the sunshine. leaving me squinting in the passenger chair. Yesterday I drove directly into the low sun at 4:00pm and they worked a treat. I now have to buy a second pair.

These were £19. There were cheaper ones and it would be interesting to know what they are like, if anyone buys them.

I always found March the worst time for light sensitivity, probably due to tree pollen.

Also be aware that quite a lot of medication has the side effect of photosensitivity. You might be taking it for something completely different, so talk to whoever prescribed it, you may need an alternative. There is a list here, but don't rely on this, but it will give you a clue to some of the more common interactions. https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1049648-overview

For example, Doxycycline is widely used as an an antibiotic and for malaria prevention which is where I ran into it.

Thank you kindly David, I came across by accident exactly what you're referring to in Boots! Over-glasses, they are obviously bigger but I don't care, if it works it works. They do as you say box all around the eyes, the nearest to wearing swimming googles.

Thank you gsward, I wasn't aware of that, that's good to know
