Lenses for Sport

Postby Paul_M9 » Sun 24 Jun 2018 8:29 pm

Hi, since having CXL last year which has left my vision much more blurry and short sighted than it was pre-operation I've felt that I can't play as much sport as I would like to, especially Football and other team sports, because I know my RGP lenses would fall out and my glasses likely broken. I just wondered how other people with KC get by playing team sports, do you have special sports glasses or contact lenses you can use?

Thanks for any advice you can give!

One option would be to get some disposable soft lenses.

Although they would not give you as good as vision as your RGPs they would be able to correct the short sightness.

I have some disposable soft lenses which I use for swimming (I do use goggles as swimming in lenses is not advised) which give me enough vision for swimming.

Thanks Lia, sorry for the slow reply.

I have just got some new hard lenses and the optician advised that for sports such as running and cycling I should be fine in these (I'm yet to actually try though). I want to take up swimming in a month or so so will ask about soft lenses the next time I see my optician.

Personally I don't think you would have a problem with rgp's and football. I used to be a keen martial artist and wore to do stick fighting but had to take them out for boxing etc. I then had a stint of cycling and that wasn't a problem with them either.

Ok thanks, that's good to know! As these are new lenses I'm slightly paranoid about losing them but need to try at least running in them
