Hi Lola,

Although there is some evidence that KC is genetic only about 10% of people with KC have a family member who also has it.

So most people's children aren't affected.

as far as I am aware no one in my family has a KC diagnoses aside from me, my rugrat is 5 in January and currently has no sign or indication of KC, if my small goes on to develop KC it will be one of those things and like every other obstacle that has come our way since the small was born we will deal with it.

Hi Lola,

From the talk that we had a couple of years ago by Mr. Tuft, the stats are something like:

If a parent has KC, then there is a 7% chance of a child developing KC.
If both parents have KC, then (depending on which genes each parent have) the odds are between 7-49%.

This is really reassuring to read! I am considering trying for children and was a bit concerned about passing it down. Also, space_cadet, I like your notion of rolling with it and just dealing with it!I feel like having KC teaches you to do that....always new challenges every year :) I'm sure little ones are the same!

To add to the positive messages Lola, I believe I was the only one in my family with KC across many aunts, uncles and cousins and none of my 3 children have it (they were closely monitored) or any of the 3 grandchildren (although they are all under 5 years old at present). I can't think of many people I've come into contact with where it occurs in consecutive generations.
