pmcd progression now cxl help

Postby madman » Fri 27 May 2016 2:01 pm

hello everyone

i just been to a check up to moorefields and been told my pmcd has showed progression from the pentacam scans and they did a comparison from the previous 2 years as this was my 3rd yearly visit this month. I was showed 3 pics in a row with the 3rd being the difference and i could see a 3 yellow bits.

At first i was told KC on year 1 2014 and due to my age it wouldn't change much as i was 38, year 2 2015 i was told it was pmcd and only slight change from KC to pmcd, now in year 3 may 2016 i been told i have pmcd and its showed progression mainly in left eye pentscan showed the 3 yellows bits on pics and the right eye just a bit.

i was told i by consultant i could have cxl but to be honest im scared of the pain, i heard its very painful, and the cornea scraping not looking forward to it. The consultant said about cxl and the risks and benefits involved and said i had choices to have both eyes done at once, left eye first then the right, or not at all, or go and think about it for couple months. do i have cxl, dont i have cxl, do i have left eye first them other, do i just have worst eye and leave the right. please help.

my eye test showed le 6/9 re 6/9.

please please please i need help on the above post, what would you do, and anyone had experiences please please post

this what i posted last year may be bit of help viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15932&p=72914&hilit=madman#p72914

Thank you to everyone

It's a tough one, I'll give you that.

My consultant said in general under 30 he'd recommend it, over 30 he wouldn't (unless it was progressing quickly) problem was I was bang on 30 lol. I had it done in both eyes, but with a 6 month gap between the two. My first was almost completely painless, I was back to work in a few days and driving after about two weeks. My second one was very painful and I've been left with far worse vision than when I started! Granted, I had complications which only effect roughly 3% of people, so it's rare... I do regret having it done, but at the same time I was driving myself mad wondering if I should do it or not (like you probably are) and I knew if I didn't do it my brain would probably never shut up!

Personally, my opinion is at your age I wouldn't do it. How do you cope at the moment, with glasses or contacts? As long as you can see *okay* I don't think it's worse risking losing that.
