contact lenses

Postby kitty kat » Wed 24 Feb 2016 7:35 pm

My son is 20 and today we were at the hospital, the doctor wont give him a cornea transplant till all "contact lenses are exhusted", his words. Was wondering what lenses everyone wears, anything new out there? Jordan has tried RGP, piggy backing, semi sclera, hybrid and kera soft which he wears in his left eye and nothing in his right as we are struggling to get a contact lens to fit due to steepness of his eye. A few months back optometrist tried a sclera, which went in ok but couldn't get back out. Many thanks

When the cone is too steep for other lenses, a scleral lens can often work, as it doesn't actually touch the cornea. I've never worn a scleral lens, but know that the technique of getting them in and out can take some getting used to. Some people use a plunger to remove the lens. But if a scleral isn't going to work for you son, then I don't know of any other lenses on the market that could help.
Any scleral lens wearers out there with any advice?
