Lifestyle after corneal graft

Postby clarissa_82 » Thu 04 Feb 2016 10:07 pm

Hi, I'm new here. I'm 33 and I've been diagnosed with KC. I have advace KC in my right eye. The only option is PK. I'm already waiting for surgery. I've been dancing for years. I'm scared of all of this... Can anyone tell me if I'll be able to dance, moderate exercise, jogging with a corneal graft? Please help. Thank you

Hi Clarissa and welcome,
You'll be able to do all of those activities after a graft, though you'll need to check with your surgeon how soon after the graft you can resume exercise. The main restrictions are on any heavy lifting for some months and on contact sports. So yes, there is life after a graft! All the best.

To follow up Clarissa, I've got a 35 year old graft that's survived a great deal of travelling, jiving, jogging, places with temperatures from -40C to +55C and also a one minute free-fall parachute drop from 15,000 feet, so you do not need to feel that you will be inhibited - you will need to wait to do some of those things until it has completely settled though!
Good luck
John
