Lost a lens, what now?

HI all,

So today i was being all festive with my friends in winter wonderland when a huge gust of window got some dust in my eyes, it was unbearable so I removed them, in the process my right contact got stuck just below my eye and when i tried too grab it, it feel and the rest is history. I do plan on calling Moorefield tomorrow/Monday but I was just wondering if you had any advice, and also how long a replacement might take. I really want a replacement ASAP since I need to work and having 1 eye is making things troublesome. Is it possible too get some temp contacts at all, don't even mind paying if its not stupid amounts.

Also do many of you have backups, now that this has happened I'm thinking too always order a backup since its painful being legally almost blind in 1 eye (my right is my bad eye) for any stretch of time.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Tehmoe,

I'm really sorry to hear that you have lost a lens. Moorfields' website states that a corneal lens replacement takes between two and six weeks, hopefully it will be less than this, the length of time taken to get a lens will depend upon the manufacturer of the lens.

Do you have any old lenses you could use? I keep my old lenses as a spare pair, even though they are not to my latest prescription they are good enough in an emergency.

As for a temporary lens I don't know whether this would be possible as contact lenses for keratoconus tend to be bespoke. It might be possible to get some soft disposable lenses from a High Street optician but these would probably only give vision similar to that which you would get with glasses. Also you could need to have a current eyetest and then pay for a contact lens fitting and the lenses.

Hi Lia,

Thanks for the message, I had an old pair but I can't seem too find them. 2-6 weeks is a long time, I will see tomorrow/monday if its possible too pay more for faster shipping or anything else, and I will also just order a backup pair soon (Have a test on February so I'll order a new pair then).

I always try and have backups... saying that I've only got 2 pairs at the moment and need to get more!

I'm so sorry it's a nightmare isn't it. My RGP's usually take 2 weeks, like Lia I keep the ones as a back up spare and I also buy another pair as a further back up so that I always have 2 spare sets.
