Hello everyone

Postby Hamid » Fri 02 Jun 2006 12:18 pm

Hi all :)

I just created my account on this web site which is indeed a source of happiness by knowing the fact that there are other people with KC organised and willing to guide n share their experiences.

I was diagnosed with KC three years back, initially i was recommended to wear glasses, experiencd frequent changes in glasses i was adviced to wear GP lens in one and then in both the eyes.

Due to my nature of job as accountant, work pressure and late sittings i often felt tense due to vision problems but could not make the habit of wearing those HRAD lenses and sufferend alot in form of headaches and eye stress..

yet, i find it difficult to wear GP lenses regularly infact i am anxious to know are there people who wear GP lens in both eyes and living normal life, working in offices ! now adays the focus on my nerves is "how to smoothly wear the lenses during whole day and avoid pain that suddenly starts..."

Thanking you for creating such a helpful and encouraging forum :):)

regards
Hamid

Hi Hamid,

I work in an afiice and do laboratory work with vegerous air con, initially I did have problesm but that is related to poor tear production to lubricate the eye which I have now overcome.

Lens wear takes time and to be able to do office stuff I wore one lens at a time, you soon get used to this. It has been a few years hard slog hever I do not represent the general KC polulation that wears lenses. I can now on the whole wear lenses for 12 hours per day and periodically go to 15 hours. To do this in a working week, I do ensure I have one day a week off lens wear to give my eye a rest. There is also the need for me to use lubricating eye drops to help with the comfort and extended lens wear.

The first 8 hours wear time is the easiest to achieve starting at 1 - 2 hours and building by an hour each day. After that for it was building up each extra hour over a week or two. It was at this point I found I had poor quality tears and this took over 9 moths to sort out, but now with the eye drops and making sure my body is well hydrated by drinking plenty of watre in addition to normal drinks that this has helped too.

My long lens wear has been constant for about 2 - 3 months with very few problems.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Gareth

Welcome Hamid. I'm sure you will get used to your lenses. I am still at school I wear them like Gareth on average for about 15 hours a day, occasionally longer.

You will get plenty of advice for lens wear from the users on this website- I have and it has been a great help. I would advise to keep a lens case with fresh solution, in case of your lenses falling out, or if any irritation occurs, its best to give the eye a rest. I have recently started using eye drops thanks to the advice on this forum, and have found it greatly helpful, so I also keep my eye drop bottle with me too for when my eyes feel tired. Hope you find plenty of help on this forum.
