Hi,
I have been using scleral lens in my right eye for a couple of months and they are a lot more comfortable than my rgps i had before. The problems I have is that every morning I put them on they seem to be a bit of slimey stuff on them. I clean them every day with protein cleaner. When i put them in my eyes, it seems like i am looking through a greasy window and appear very blury. I have tried opticorm four times a day which is not helping.My contact lens fitter seems to think its gunk coming from my eye. Has anyone else had this kind of experience with scleral lenses. Is so then was there any treatments that were successful?

I always used to rinse my sclera's thoroughly in saline, and then fill them with saline ahead of insertion. I don't know if it will work for you.

I clean them with protein cleaner and then rinse with saline and store with boston solution. In the morning I rinse them again with saline before insertion.

Have you tried drenching the lens when inserted with something g like Clnitas Soothe?

Do you mean the lens has a smeary/dry patch on it when it's in place on it or is it actual gunk on the lens?

If it's any help - When I used to put mine in I would get a hydrophobic area on my lens which would result in the lens becoming foggy and smeary (a bit like a window where the water cannot settle and it appears dry and smeary almost oily). Anyway my optometrist recommended I put a drop of Abatron Quattro (a multipurpose cleaner) on the end of the plunger (scleral remover) and whiz it around the lens in a circular motion whilst it's in place. This creates a more water friendly surface and the lens becomes clear! This tip has saved me so much time, energy and frustration as I don't need to keep removing the lens to clean it again and again!
Also when cleaning the lens I use I-Clean to clean the lens, saline to rinse, a dry sterile tissue to dry the lens, Quattro to clean off any of this oil/smearyness and then more saline to rinse. I have found this is the best cleaning regime to keep me scleral clear.
