Well if it's any consolation i misread it as well, as in i didn't read anything about being seen by an opthalmologist either!

You know posting here does make it so dam easy to misread and see things that aren't there or put another way to completely ignore things that are!!

Maybe i need to go back to my optometrist and ask for some further tests as sometimes it would seem that i'm not seeing what is written here!! :LOL!!!  :P

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

Yes John and others are technically right that strictly optoms cannot diagnose, only recognise

I was diagnosed by an optom, i've never seen a specialist, should i ask to see one?

Canada may well be different to the UK, where a diagnosis would need to be confirmed by a specialist.

Debbie

Id tend to agree with Lynn response here.....whilst Optoms recognise the refer to Eye Units and COnsultants; the fact that you have been seen and thereafter discharged back to your Optician makes sense to me........I would just ensure that you keep it monitored by ensuring you get seen (in my world) every 6 months...at the minimum.......

Hope that helps

Yes i would agree with this advice as it suddenly hit me that you are in the same place my twin sister was. When i got diagnosed at 14 my sister was called in to be seen by my optometrist as well just to check even though she had really good vision. He then referred her to be seen by my consultant even though he didn't think it was a problem at the time but just to check as i had it.

True enough my consultant sent her away after her first visit as her vision was really good, she didn't need glasses or lenses so she didn't need to be treated by him. She was told to see our optometrist if she had any problems but didn't actually need to start wearing lenses until about 6 years later. Our optometrist called for her regularly in that time just to make sure things hadn't got worse.

So i would keep in touch with your optometrist regularly as they are your first line in getting treatment. Trust their judgement on when or if you need to be seen by a consultant as my sister was only sent six years early because she is my twin and i had it.

Some people can manage very well with lenses and so never need to see an opthalmologist for further treatment. So don't worry about it too much as i am sure that if you need to be seen by a doctor your optometrist will let you know! :o

My condition was first noticed by an optometrist, but he was careful not to say the word "Keratoconus". He sent me to my GP with a letter asking for an ophthalmology referral. I got the referral and the ophthalmologist said "You have keratoconus. We will take away your corneas and gtive you new ones from a dead person."

I moved from Aberdeen to Glasgow, but not until I had RGP corneal lenses.

Dam did he really put it like that?!!! Gee i would have run away right there and then and decided that having good vision was definately not all it was cracked up to be if that was the way i had to go about it!! LOL!!

Am glad that you obviously DIDN'T do that and are now a very nice part of this little home!

Yes, those words are seared into my memory. I don't think that they taught communication skills to ophthalmologists in those days.

No wonder you waited until legally being blind before having a graft.
