That may have been true a few years ago. Certainly, a few years ago, the GDBA had a cash glut. It is no longer true - times
have changed, word got about, the lottery came along, etc etc,
and both are now cash-strapped again, AIUI.

I have been saved from the wrath of the blade. My graft operation was due for february this year, however, thanks to the professional and open-minded advice from D Bennett at his practice, my consultants at the QMC are to try Rose K lens in my eyes, and if that fails Sceleral lenses.

Why they never offered this 2yrs ago when diagnosed that nothing could be done for my left eye I do not know!

I would just like to tell you all that my son Paul had a graft op in October which he had been waiting for for some time due to the severe condition of his right eye. He is 17 years and we were all worried sick about the op. It was carried out by a brilliant surgeon called Mr Kaye, based at St Paul's eye hospital in Liverpool. The op went fantastically well and he was home after 2 days. He has recovered quickly and his vision is improving all the time. He still has the eye drops and regular visits to the hospital and he is about to start having some stitches either adjusted or removed. It has been a difficult time but he is feeling so much better about himself now. His left eye also has keratoconus but not as developed at the moment. Hs also has an identical twin brother with the same condition. Hopefully this will give everyone waiting for a graft some positive input which was what Paul really needed prior to his. Thank goodness we are fortunate enough to have such talented doctors in this country.

I just read KP's article in response to Saveej'x enquiry about the Lombardi Clinic's "Cure" for KC. Thank you Ken for dealing so clearly with the issues.

Is there any data worldwide on the outcomes of surgery at different stages in the development of KC. My present worry is that I may have delayed too long (I'm 53 and waited until I had no tolerance to contact lenses and very poor sight before agreeing to surgery)/

Don't get me wrong, I do not regret the years I enjoyed of good sight as corrected by contact lens wear, but I am left with a slight concern that my prognosis may be less attractive given the state into which my eyes had deteriorated pre-op.

Glad your sons doing well, don't be surprised if his vision gets worse before it settles fully this can take 12 months. Be aware of any symptom changes, report back to the Doc immediately. It takes the Doc a few minutes to check things out and the first few weeks are the worst. Tell your son to take it very easy give the eye a few months to heal. Ive had 4 grafts since 1976 so I understand.
My last 2 were done in Manchester in 1996 so im not far away but I did not know Liverpool had a eye hospital.

I'm in Liverpool too, but I attend Walton Hospital. I had my graft performed there last year by Mr Khan, who has been fantastic. Unfortunately he's off to pastures new next month.

12 months on and I'm still extremely happy with the results. It can be tough in the early months at times, but it will all be worth it. I went back to uni last week and am coming off the drops in a few days. I have no regrets whatsoever about having the graft done, its changed everything!

Hi everyone,
I have had KC for a number of years but the rt eye is rejecting lenses and EXTREMELY sensitive to light! Does any one know why so sensitive to light? The opticians don't! I have also heard about a new treatment technique where you put in the special lenses over night and it will last for one day at a time, no surgery! I'll find out more info and post it. Look to hear from uuu.

Extreme light sensitivity can mean many things, go to a eye hospital or a Doctor with Knowledge of KC, with all due respect to your optician he or she may be missing something and its your eye!

My sons KC seem to be getting better, does anyone Know why ? He is on drugs for his high blood pressure has this got something to do with it ?

His previous problem with his eye infection has now cleared up, which i posted before about.

Does anyone else here use, or in the past been to Darlington Memorial Hosiptal Eye dept.? I was diagonsied with KC there a year ago and was back today as I have been having some troubles, unrealted I think to my KC..viterous detachemnt etc.

I have waited for this appoinment since Sept last year, and I did'nt get to see the specialist I was meant to with no reasons given.

The Dr I saw basiaclly said I can't see any problems..just continue with your RGP's and the optician and only come back when these no longer work and then we will discuess surgery!!

Problem is my hospital does not have a contact lens clinic as I asked today.....so what fianancial help is there if I have to buy my lenses privately..or could the hospital order them for me...I fianced my last pair of RGPS at £300 but could'nt afford that again.

Can my GP refer me to a hospital that does have a contact lens clinic or am I stuck with Darlington Hospital and me having to shell out £300 every year for new lenses??
