I'm three months post graft and was doing pretty well, I thought, until this week. The last three days have all been bad eye days and I'm wondering if it's the sun. I haven't been excessively photophobic so far but I sure am now. I'm shopping for new sooperdooper shades this weekend for definate and may have to resort to a hat as well! It's making me SO irritable, which is difficult as I'm trying to train people at work at the moment and want to give a good impression. It's making me dread the coming months and making me worry that I'll never enjoy a sunshine holiday again Reassurance please!!
Hi Val,
Photophobia is very common after grafts. I now wear a hat and sunglasses whenever the sun is out winter or summer. I decided early on to get some fun out of it and now have a collection of hats for all weathers and occasions!
The dashboard in the car is equipped with shades, baseball cap and saline for irrigation. The low sunshine in the winter can be worse than when the sun is higher in the summer. I found when driving in Spain I often didn't even need sunglasses because the sun was overhead!
So make a virtue out of necessity and get in a bit of retail therapy without even having to feel guilty about it!
No reason why you shouldn't enoy a sinshine holiday as early as this summer (if we get one). Just remember to wear rap around sun specs, high value and polorizing), and a big brimmed hat can be an advantage.
SAME ADVICE AS EVERYONE WEAR DECENT SUNGLASSES AND A CAP AND IT SHOULD HELP EASE THE PHOTOPHOBIA ITS A REAL PAIN AND I KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE FOR THAT ONE I GOT IT BAD MYSELF BUT I KINDA HAVE AN EXTRA FEW BODY PARTS NOW THEY R MY CAP AND MY SUNGLASSES
OH YEAH MY MUM ASWELL SO I CAN GET ABOUT OUTDOORS LOL
I'm like Janet and have a huge collection of hats. I never go out without one. I couldn't do without the photochromic lenses in my specs either. Finding suitable winter hats is more difficult than finding summer ones as they tend not to have very wide brims. An added bonus is that they're great for bad hair days - which for me and my crazy curly hair is 99.9% of the time.
Does anyone have problems with halogen lighting? I find that far more troublesome than the sun.
Thiss will get better and better. I haven´t been photophobic this time, but the first time it was severe. It went away after some time. But even if you are photophobic or not, graft eye or not, it is allways a good adwise to protect your eyes against sharp sunlight.
Seriously though after I have been to the GP on monday for another sick note (being a computing officer who can't actually sit at a computer for long is not good) think I will arrange for SWMBO to go hat shopping with me.
Since summer progresses a wide brimmed cricket hat will do the job but I dare say that SWMBO will have other ideas...
