sorry to hear the hydrops left scarring.
My son had hydrops (second time) Jan to May but seems to have escaoed without scarring this time around.
What I wondered is, if I could talk to you at the conference about how hydrops looks and feels from the inside ?! Because my son doesnt have much communication so I dont really know how he as been feeling, and I need help to understand where he is coming from.
It has been interesting for me to realise that others have depression associated with loss of vision, because Dale went through bad depression in teens (and I thought it was just me being grouchy to him!).

THANKS PAUL.

You have reduced some of my anxieties. The main being return to work and study. I do drive, but am able to work from home for parts of the week and my work is psychotherapy, so I guess my altered perspective may come in handy ;-)

The eye drops you take, are they long term or will you stop using them in the future?

Once again, thank you for sharing.

Hello, I am due to have a deep lamellar keratoplasty (DLK), which is a partial thickness graft, under the care of Stephen Tuft at Moorfields in July. I would be grateful if anyone can offer any comments or advice on personal experience of DLK. Was it successful, or were there problems ? How did it settle down, and what aftercare was involved ? I am curious to find out from anyone with any DLK opinions, thanks a lot. Simon Wright

Hi Simon
I cannot help with deep lamellar keratoplasty, but please tell us more about it. Is it instead of a corneal transplant? Is it meant to be better? Hope the op goes well - tell us how you get on.

Hallo Harpo!

I remember you, at least. I was just thinking the other day we
hadn't heard from you for a while, and was wondering how you
were. So good to hear from you with an update.

Best of luck for 8th September. And meanwhile, I'll look
forward to seeing you on Saturday.

For anyone else who's coming to the conference - I'll be the one in the jazzy African kaftan top. Do come and say hallo.

John said:
Yesterday was my first "proper" day with the scleral, and when I removed it 9-10 hours after insertion, the eye was very
bloodshot with a rather prominent blood vessel snaking its way
to the iris.

Is this normal? Is this bad enough to avoid wearing the scleral

I would say, yes and no. It happens to me fairly often, but it
shouldn't happen every day. What makes mine get like this is if I leave the lens in too long, or after it starts to get
uncomfortable ...... and particularly on a bad hay fever day!

I'd suggest you leave the lens out for a day or so until your
eye looks better - ie. no longer all red and sore-looking, then
try again, but don't leave the lens in so long. How long is too long? - well, if the eye starts to get red or itchy, that's long enough, but if it is still blue-white and quite comfortable,
it's probably OK...... it does tend to vary a bit from day to
day, depending how well one feels, the weather, sunlight, pollen count, etc etc.

I'd also say 9-10 hours on the first day with a new lens isn't
bad, particularly if it's just after a hospital appointment.

Good luck with it!

Jane - Just to endorse what Andy said, we have members doing a huge variety of jobs and following virtually all professions (well, maybe not airline pilots, but most other things!) Many people have KC quite mildly, and find it affects their life very little. And I think most of us are determined to NOT let it affect what we do, or at least as little as possible even if wearing contact lenses can be a bind at times, and some days are better than others. But if you'd like more information, or would like to be on our mailing list for regular newsletters and details of various activities, do e-mail me Anneklepacz@aol.com Good luck! Anne

Hi Kate,

Yeah well i'll be there on saturday at the conference. I'm 19 at the mo. I don't mind talkin to u or anyone else about what i've been through or am goin through. I think as a person i'm not very positive so maybe hearing about what i went through won't help. But what i felt still maybe be useful. I'll keep on updating on this until friday before the conference so any questions or anything let me know.

Laura,
Moorfields is the big hospital in London specialising in Eyes! Gnerally you are referred there by your GP if you are close enough. I believe it is also a Teaching hospital.

Au Res.,
paul
