Hi Helen (1606),

I'm in Barnsley. Not quite Rotherham, but we probably have the same consultant as the two hospitals share them.

Dave.

Hi Dave, 1611
I'm not under the hospital only the optician, but you'll probably know that, its the one opposite the Alhambra Centre - C Raison - he sent to my doctors when I was first diagnosed 6 years ago who in turn sent me to R.D.G.H but the consultant there said my eyes were O.K. So I went back to Raisons and ended up wearing R.G.P lenses, I got a new pair a couple of weeks ago the left eye (bad eye) needed a new prescription but the right eye didn't, which isn't bad. How long is it since you were diagnosed with K.C.

Hi Helen,

I was diagnosed last year. My optician noticed the problem in December 2001 and suggested that it might be KC. I was referred to the consultant, and had my first appointment last April. He confirmed that it was KC and sent my back to my optician for contact lenses. I have ZWave (http://www.wavecontactlenses.com) lenses, which were made for me by a lens manufacturer in Manchester. Vision is excellent with the lenses, and they are quite comfortable. The only problem is the price - they cost about £250 - so hopefully they will last a while.

Like you, my left eye is much worse than my right eye. I have perfectly good vision in my right eye with glasses, but can't see much at all through the left. The lens improves my left eye vision to 6/6 on a good day, and 6/9 on a bad day!

I also suffer from dry, itchy eyes. They are like that whether I wear lenses or not! I have found that Viscotears are good when not wearing lenses. I haven't found a solution for when the lenses are in (other than taking them out!), has anybody else got any ideas?

Hello Dave,

God your lenses are a bit on the expensive side, I complained about the price of my last new ones, but you kicked me into a cocked hat, as far as itchy eyes goes... well I asked this question a couple of weeks back, and was advised Hypromellose which apparantley are artificial tear drops available across the counter or on prescription or Allergans either refresh or revive drops are supposed to be good, like yourself the only thing that helps me is to take the actual lenses out.

Hi

Does anyone know where I can get Refresh Liquigel drops. They have been recommended to me for dry eyes, but can't find them anywhere.

Thanks

Lois for Stacy

Postby Lois for Stacy » Thu 24 Apr 2003 6:35 pm

Hi, I am writting for my daughter Stacy who was diagnosed with Keratoconus in 2000. Stacy is 18 born with Down Syndrome. In Nov. 2002, the Dr's told us that glasses will no longer help her right eye and her left eye has the start of Keratoconus, which a couple wks ago we were told the left eye has deteriorated since Nov.

We have an appt. in May to see a specialist in Madison, Wi to fit her for a contact in her left eye. They told us, another Dr in Madison, the only thing that can be done for the right eye is a cornea transplant.

I have been doing research and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Boston Scleral Lens and if that would be an option for Stacy instead of the transplant.

I'm also wondering if anyone would be able to share experiences in working with a person that is Down Syndrome and Keratoconus. My daughter is an eye rubber and isn't always able to share what she is experiencing. It's very hard to get her to comply with Dr's.

Please share if you have any advise/suggestions.

Thanks,
Lois

Dawn,

I get my refresh drops from the local Tesco store, i believe from previous postings that most of the supermarkets and chemist should stock it, It has helped me no end as i have to wear my lenses all day and use computers alot.

Hi Helen,

Thank, I'll try those.

I've managed to get our IT department to get me 17" flat screen display - what a difference on the eyes! I can read the text on it from the other side of the room!

Hi Dave

Thanks for that. Are the Refresh drops you get the Liquigel ones? They are thicker than the regular Refresh drops more like a gel tear, so they don't have to be used so often. My eyes are so dry that regular drops don't help.

I use viscotears when I dont have lenses in, but need something gel like that I can use with lenses. Any ideas? My Opthalmologist is going to do punctum plugs, if the dryness hasn't improved when I go back in 3 months.
