Hi Chris.

Not long now indeed.

I spent a couple of hours writing a letter to the donors family at the weekend, I think as I was writing that it really hit me whats going to happen and has had to happen.

I haven't slept very well for the last couple of nights, which is unusual as I can usually sleep through anything, so I guess its starting to get to me.

On a lighter note a friend bought me a pirate kit, with eye patch, cutlass and telescope!

I am considering getting a big red pen and circling the eye that they have to do - as I cant afford for them to get it wrong!

Working today, holiday tomorrow to move things round and do lots of shopping (the wife cant drive) and then out for a slap up meal.

Roll on thursday - I would like it out of the way now.

Good to hear your frineds are as sympathetic as mine. My friend who is now a nurse got me a Rubiks gift set which eventually got confiscated because I kept annoying anyone people with ti,if they came near my bed

That's what always concerns me too.

It's amazing how soon it all suddenly comes around, it only seems a few weeks ago that you first came onto the board and was asking how long on average one has to wait for a transplant.

The build up though can certainly be a bit stressful as it's hard to just relax. I know on my aborted operation I never settled, but then as it was cancelled and put back on about 7 times in the three days leading up to my operation I never really knew where I stood. I do now wish that I had been able to take a chance and gone ahead with the transplant though.

I'm thus delighted your operation has finally come around, and although it is obviously a concern come friday you'll be starting on the road to recovery.

Keep hold of that pirate outfit when you're better, I may have found a home for it.

The audio books are sorted, iTunes tells me that I have 13 days worth of books sorted - so that should be plenty! (Yay for council tax and the local library ).

I have a uber Rubiks Cube somewhere (the one with 16 squares rather than 9) - that may well get some use.

Yeah its amazing how it creeps up, it was only October when I found out I had KC - at least most people here get to go through the "oh bugger I have lost my contact" stage prior to the graft, Twas a shock at the time to be honest and now have to deal with it all.

The pirate accessories are clearly an essential requirement according to my friend Sarah and SWMBO. So have decided that this years birthday party (October) is going to be a pirate themed.

Will post up as soon as am able after the op - so no idea when that will be at this moment in time.

It's amazing as your experience of KC is the same as mine.

I too only found out I had KC at a late date and never went through the contact lens stage either.

It was a case of going to the optician, who picked up KC and then one appointment at the hospital. From there I discovered I needed a cornea transplant and was booked in.

It certainly was a shock to the system.

Enjoy your catalogue of talking books. I buy through iTunes, too. This is a great resource. Problem with listening to some stuff (eg H2G2) is that you laught so much you might just pop your sutures!
