Ive noticed over the last few months but more often recently.i can just be sat down or doing whatever and my bad eye (left) all of a sudden feels like ive just added gel to my eye but only the centre which hazes everything out completly.it doesnt last long with a few rapid blinks its gone.

ideas?

Hi Loz,

Know exactly what you mean, but for me it is usually while wearing a lens. For me it is due to poor tear production.

From what you describe, sounds similar. Basically it sounds like the fatty component in the tears has built up in the tear duct and then come loose and moved across your field of vision. Blinks help wash it away. This fatty bit is a lubricant within the tears and a surfactant in the tears helps tosiperse this in the watery saline of the tears.

Somepoint in the day, just put a clean finger tip (wash you hands first) in the corner of your eye over the tear duct and see if some gel like goo comes out. It will be clear/colourless and quite viscous.

I use a lubricating eye drop called Systane that helps but there are all sorts on the market.

On the topic of unknown discharge from the tear ducts. Does anyone knows of why a sticky green discharge will unfailingly be there in my bad eye before the hydrop episode and mysteriously cleared itself after it hydrop-ed?

Id get this with only one type of lens and that was the small RGP Rose K....it would mysteriously steam up randomly!.....and then id need to blink a few times and it would kinda clear...or id take the lens out and re-settle it

hmmm is a strange thing...anyway took my letter to the gp on monday...so i just wait for my hosp appointment now.

probally shouldnt have left it for so long..nearly 15 years..opps but with 4 young children contacts around the house didnt seem like a good idea

Yes i get a lot of blurring at times but only when i am wearing my lens. Sometimes a lot of blinking will sort it out or i just take my lens out and rinse it.

A good way to manage the problem you report is to make sure when you blink to close your eye completely before opening it again. A three quarter blink will tend to pile up debris and secretion right on the bit of your eye that you need to look through!

Don't have any idea about this discharge. I wonder whether it might have been evidence of an unrelated infection that was cleared up as a colateral benefit of the treatment for the Hydrops?

I too have experienced this however, for me it seems to happen more when my eye is having a problem with my lens.

About 4 months ago I regularly had this problem with my right eye and was very concerned as the vision wasn't great either and then suddenly my eye changed shape a little, the scleral lens fitted a little better, my visual acuity improved and no more gel like sticky bits in my eye.

I like Andrew now always try to blink making sure my eyelids meet - I am sure I must look really daft keep shutting my eyes over and over again however, it seems to help so what the heck!

i have that.
but i have to 're-set' my eyes everytime it happens. i think with me its because of work, i work in a smokey club and have to reset my eyes about 10-20 times a night when im working.
also as i am now wearing sclerals and have done for a while i have found that i can go without blinking for about 10 minutes, when i am concentrating on a computer screen or at the movies, i completely forget to blink at all and my eyes really cloud up.
Anyone else get this lack of blinking problem?
