I have one full eye lens which i have to saok in Quattro solution each night and one small lens which does not require soaking. (Different lens materials used in each eye)

I seem to have recently had a problem whereby both lens cloud over on the outside.

I have tried drops to clear and my hospital have just recommended a course of vitamins,- zinc and primose oil which can help with the quality of tears you produce.

Does anyone have experience of this problem, any ideas??

I used to get this all the time! The problem, as it was explained to me, was thay I produced tears that were too viscose for the normal 'blink' to clean them off the surface of my lens. the problem was compounded by the fact that my 'blink' did not quite close my eye, so that there was a little build up of viscose tears (my natural tear) on the surface of my lens just at the point where my eye lids did not meet.

I had to remember to do an exaggerated blink each time so that my eyelids did actually close and the surface of the lens was actually cleaned.

I can see how dietary supplements may have an effect on your tear production, and hope that you will let us know how this goes.

I used to irrigate sometimes with saline, and had to use artificial tears (I still use them) to supplement my own meagre supply

I had the same problem when using the piggyback method with corneal rgps and semi-limbal lenses. It was more so to do with the lens type and fit, and possibly the oxygen permeability (lack of oxygen to the cornea can cause cloudiness, oedema). It could also be that you have a low tear dispersion time and may have dry eyes.

If this didnt happen before with the current lenses and has only started recently than you may want to try systane, you may see a difference in about a week....but do not know if they will help prevent the lens from drying on the outer surface. My lenses would mainly dry from the innersurface against the cornea.

Once my lenses would dry out I would cinse them out and reapply conditioning solution and reinsert them every hour or so after that. In your case you could try cleaning the surface of your lens. I do not think supplements will help greatly for an immediate effect.

If you use systane, remove the lens first. Then put the drops in your eye. They will lubricate the cornea and the ineer surface of the eye lids.

Put your lenses back in as normal with the wetting solution you use and this helps to stop the lens surface drying too.

Once the film does build up, I find I have to clean my lenses, rinse the cleaner off with saline and repeat once or twice more depending on how bad they were when I took them out.

This helps clear whatever build up has occured. Then store the lenses as you do normally.

I have had similar problems in the past and was advised that I should be using a protein remover tablet. It was suggested I use amiclair weekly enzymatic cleaning tablets (made by Abatron, the same people who make Quattro) and I was advised to use them more frequently than weekly at first if I seemed to be still having problems. Luckily this wasn't the case and things seemed to settle down ok with just weekly use.

I also had a situation a few months ago when I had a lens replaced. I went to the hosital to pick it up and have the fit checked etc and almost as soon as I had put it in it fogged up and I could not see anything. My optom cooly advised me that he had that effect on many of his patients and then on a serious note told me it was most likely due to the lens not being completely clean and therefore it was not wetting properly and as such that was why I was seeing through a fog.

The next day after a good clean there was no fog, the vision wasn't great however that is another story the fog itself was gone (maybe this was as I wasn't with the optom???)
