Having had Keratoconus for many years and with the cost of specialist contact lenses begin so expensive. I was wondering if anyone knows of any companies that provide insurance cover for them. To date, I have never been able to find any.

Mine are coverd by my home contents insurance.

There are specialist insurers available through hig street opticians, but considering my lenses are subsidised by the NHS, they are £50 each. The policy I saw at an optician was for £30.

Checked the home insurance and got it in writting my lenses were coverd and my contents insurance premium is unchanged.

Hope this helps.

Hello pgriffiths

I am pretty sure that Gareth posted on another string that he insures his contact lenses through his house policy. I know that I used to do this, although at one time opticians used to sell a bespoke contact lens policy. I think that this was considered by a previous government to constitute an unfair trading advantage, so they had to give that up.

bottom line: check your house policy. You have have an extension available at very little cost that would cover your lenses.
