Referral to Moorfields

Postby Libby » Wed 16 Oct 2013 7:18 pm

Hello everyone,

We are currently trying to gather as much info as we can. I was referred to Moorfields a few years ago and found the treatment and contact lens fitting there exceptional.

If we ask for a referral to Moorfields does anyone know what the waiting time would be for an initial appointment.

Thanks again :)

I think they try to see everyone within 3 months of referral. All the best

Hey Libby,

I was recently referred to Moorfields as well, I got the first appointment within 57 days, which I thought was really fast. Depending on which clinic you go to, it takes longer or shorter. I could have gone to a different outreach clinic within 52 days, but I thought 5 days waiting longer for my preferred clinic wasn't too much :)

thanks,

Kris

hi Kris

Yeah 57 days is pretty impressive. Do you have KC and how did you find the treatment at Moorfields.

Kind regards

Libby x

Hey Libby,

yes, I have KC and I have been both to the Ealing outreach clinic and the main clinic. At Ealing I saw a general eye specialist, who looked at the overall health of the eye etc (my eyes get very dry, which makes wearing RGP lenses extremely uncomfortable, so he was hoping to improve on this sensitivity) and at the main clinic I went to both a contact lens specialist and Scleral specialist. Everyone I've seen has been excellent, seemed interested in my case and tried to find alternative solutions.

Of course waiting times are a given, but they give you all the time needed once you're in the appointment. I have nothing but good things to say! Of course I'd like follow up appointments to be a bit quicker (between 6-8 weeks), but I already expected that.

Happy New Year and Good Luck!!

Kris

Sometimes I think the waiting times and costs involved is more annoying that the disorder itself! Image

Moorfields are good but I have found the hospitals in the West Midlands just as good, the Birmingham Eye Unit and University Hospitals Coventry & Warwick.

Where they do excel above Moorfields is that on the day of the appiointment there is far less hanging around. Moorfields just a victim of its high profile name.
