I've just joined this site because there is a possibility of me having keratoconus and want to know if anyone has heard of, or been involved in having either of these two treatments? If so, would value hearing your thoughts or stories.

Thank you Jay for your reply on the above. I had noticed there didn't seem much about the disease except from the states, until I found this forum. You, and maybe others, will be delighted to know if you haven't found out since your email posting about your treatment in Denmark that you can have it done in London at the Vision Clinic with Prof. Reinstein. He also does the intacts but they come with a price! CR3 alone costs £3,000, intacts at £4,000 and combination £6,000 all for both eyes. I don't know how that compares with Denmark.

How are you eyes now Jay as weeks have now passed. It seems from your friend and from a Chicago newspaper article I read where a Russian minister visited the hospital there that intacts are very successful.

Did you experience any pain with the collagen treatment as your friend did?

As far as I can recall, there are now 3 places in the UK offering C3R, however do tread carefully if selecting a place in the UK. What I mean by this, is be ready to ask questions on there knowledge on the treatment, how many they have treated, results (will be short term) etc.

With regards to Pain, I did not have the Epithelia removed therefore I was not expecting any pain. However, in reality I did experience a dull pain in the eye for a few days but nothing to shout home about.....

Intacs and there success are, in my opinion, largely to due with the Consultant who performs the treatment. In my opinion, there are only two consultants in the world who truly excel in combining this treatment; Dr Swanson (Mexico) and Dr Boxer Wachler (USA).

I would like to think there are more in Europe however there is limited data on this as of yet....

Thought people might be interested to visit this site which gives details more on laser eye surgery, but you can read the CV of Professor Reinstein who is a highly qualified man who lectures and researches in the States. I had the free exam which was incredible and there they discovered the possibility that I had keratoconus, and certainly the symptoms I've read about would indicate I have it. I am due to go back in two weeks for another examination which of course I have to pay for but one which will say for sure whether I have it and indicate which, if not both, treatments they would recommend.

My friend had the laser eye surgery it was incredible four hours later you'd never know she'd had anything done and could see perfectly. My son had his done in Bristol for a quarter of the price and his eyes were swollen, he had eye ache, light affected him and it was 3 weeks before he was feeling okay - I suppose you pays your money and takes your choice - but this man was on TV and is one of the best!

I'll keep you posted on my progress and hope this information will be of use to others.

Good to see that the consultant is well qualified and from what you say, well qualified for accessing the KC and potential treatments.......
