Ok, was wondering if anyone has any more advice on this as i think i'm going insane! LOL!! I know when we have a graft done we are told absolutely NO lifting and yes that's ok. We wouldn't want to do anything like that anyway i mean we just had our eye cut open!!

As time goes on though how long exactly do you think we have to stop lifting for? Is this like a life long thing?!!

I'm in the middle of moving house and things are stressful enough as it is without wondering who the hell is going to move everything! It's dam hard work, and my poor brother in law seems to be the nominated person to carry my few pieces of furniture and boxes, thank goodness i travel light!

Any views would be helpful, maybe i just need to get further than six months here. I mean even things like shopping requires lifting and carrying and if i had had a hernia repair i would be able to carry things eventually! So there is an end to this right?? Because if not i am going to have to work harder and pay someone to do everything for me!

I think in the initial 6-8 weeks you are not meant to lift anything above 10LB and definately do not bend over at the waist (oo-eer!)...thereafter I think a bit of self control and understanding should suffice in making a judgement whether something is heavy or not.

Clearly if you go to pick up something weighing like 20KG and are straining and stressing, this will more than likely put pressure in the eyes etc which is never a good thing!

However, in your particular case I wouldnt even pick anything up weighting more than 5KG as you already have have sutures removed abit early.

Important thing is...MAKE SURE YOU BREATHE DEEPLY when you lift someting........and dont let pressure build up in the head/eyes........

You are just too damn independent. Do as i do and look pathetic, many a nice Tesco ladys has packed my shopping and put in the bags for me.

Then I satnd outside looking pathetic, lost count the number of Taxis I could have been bundled into while waiting for my wife to collect me.

If your brother inlaw is a real gent, he would not wish you to help, just supervise. If he is not like that, tell him if he does not help you will stay even longer and make the whole place pink

He wil soon have you packed and moved in and you would not have had to lift anything heavier than a cup of tea.

LMAO!! That really made me laugh!!

I think the whole idea of me staying and the flat getting taken over by pink things would get me moving out before i can say it! Hehe, my brother in law and i have had this game since i moved in where he keeps putting my pink mug and teapot in the cupboard and i keep putting it back in pride of place on the worktop!! LOL!!

He is out at the minute but i am sure that when he gets back the first thing he will notice is that i have packed all the kitchen things away!! Hehe, pink is a colour that needs to be enjoyed, it can't do a lot when it is hidden in the cupboard!!

We have learned in several moves from there to this place, then from that place to here ... that the thing to do is absolutely nothing. If you leave your cups unwrapped, somebody will come along with huge quantities of newspaper, and wrap each one individually. if you leave your books unpacked, somebody will come and load them into 'liftable' boxes. if you leave your drawers filled with socks and shirts etc, they will lift the chest of drawers with your clothes in them. If you leave your stuff on hangers in the wardrobe, they will put straps around the wardrobe doors and transport everything where it is hanging.

Pack nothing lift nothing and let the helpers take the strain.

When we moved from Aberdeen to Glasgow our three year old son (now 22) watched at the window of the old house until he saw his bed going to the van. In Glasgow he took up station again at the window until he saw his bed being carried in.

All was well with the world. he was sorted

Your job in all this is not to help lift but make copious quantities of tea for the people who will flap around you until all is done.

I jused to go to the gym n lift weights a bit 5 months post graft. Ocassionally I could tell me vision would get slightly worse after leaving the gym than on days when I would not go. I also felt my eye was bulging/expanding a bit.

In my experience I would say lifting heavy objects does affect your vision slightly post graft. Try and avoid it but if you have to lift something that requires a little force always breath, exhaling as you push/apply force as Jay mentioned as it will alleviate and increase in pressure.
