Hello i am 25 and have had KC for about 10 years now most of that time i have wore soft lenses i have just been fitted with GP's which i have managed to wear all day yesterday and today, i have got very dry eyes which seem to be made worse with these GP's does anyone have any tips for treating this? sorry if this question has been asked many times i have had a quick look but there are so many threads!

Welcome to the forums! Can I ask what type of Soft Lens you wore?...Reason for my asking is that I have not known many KC sufferers who have worn soft lenses for that amount of time whilst having KC...

In terms of Dry Eye - I think you will generally find Systane to be the measure of the day....ranging from 2 - 4 drops per day in the eye....so as to avoid the possible onset of Dry Eye

Systane can be obtained from many of the high street stores and is no more than £5 a bottle....

Should we get sponsership from Systane?

Systane has beenfound beneficial by many, but as you know we are all different so you may find one of the many eye drops more suited.

Most are just wetting agents rather than dry eye prevention. The combined eye drops that hydrate and lubricate the eye are generally better as they help the cornea and eye lids maintain their wetness.

Another dry-eyer here. When at the theatre at interval time people say 'there wasn't a dry eye in the house!', I feel tempted to say 'Well, actually ...".

Don't forget that RGP's are not the same as soft lenses and you may need to accomodate to them by building up the wear time each day towards your target of how-ever-many hours.

Thanks for your advice, can you use systane whilst your contacts are in? For the last couple of days i have been piggy backing which has made my eyes really dry so today i have treid my GP's just on their own and they still feel as bad!

Before is used these i wore Kerasoft which i can get a reasonale level of sight with but with the GP's i was seeing the third line from bottom which was much better.

I have used Systane with my contacts in with no issues whatsoever.......

If you need to use drops alot, they can cause a film over the lens as happens with me, but I need to use drops every 1 - 3 hours depending on the temperature and humidity of the areas I am working in.

It is recomended that you take your lenses out first, put the drops in and then put the lenses in straight away. Thatis what I do and the results for me are far longer lasting than just putting drops in while wearing lenses.

Lens removal just allows the drops better acces to the cornea that is in contact with the lens to get better relief.

To pop a lens out and back in is only a five minute job. Well most of the time!

I also piggy back lenses and find that my eyes get very dry. I use systane twice a day and 'blink' eyedrops when my contacts are in. It doesn't say if you can use Systane when wearing lenses but i find that when i do after time the lenses do get blurry so i now stick to drops made for use with lenses. There are a lot available, 'Vital eyes' now have a contact lens one as well so i think that you will find something suitable for you.

Systane is very good when used regularly so see how you go with that! Take care
