My ophthalmologist does not favour lenses post graft.
JoJo clearly sees a surgeon without these scruples. I was wondering what was the experience of others? Could you answer the poll?

The surgeon who did my graft did not aprove of post graft lenses, but I have not seen him for since 1993 when I was fully discharged and fell off all KC lists.
However the surgeon I see no deems them acceptable if glasses can not give satisfactory vision.
The reason I was given is that lenses can cause irritation and result in blood vessels growing towards the graft which can increase the risk of rejection.
For me they are now deemed necessary and the blood vessels in the ye are monitord.

Since post graft my unaided vision and vision with glasses is worse than before, I don't have much choice but to wear lenses. My grafts are clear, but the astigmatism is very bad and vertical in one eye and horizontal in the other, making correction with glasses difficult.
Like Gareth, the growth of blood vessels is monitored. I just have to hope they remain stable as at present.

I am not sure about where my surgeon stands on this but know that it is very early days yet. I am also not looking to put in a lens at the moment as the thought of playing about with more loose stitches is a major worry!
Hoping that we all get good vision whether with glasses or lenses and that i can post that mine is good with this eye as well in time!

Yes, that sounds about right. Although Ken was quite keen to fit a scleral to my grafted eye, my consultant wasn't quite so keen whilst I still had my stitches in... and I was completely freaked by the idea!
So I wore specs instead. Got quite good vision most of the time from them too. Best vision was with one scleral in the non-grafted eye and specs for the grafted one.
So don't worry, I'm sure you'll find a way of getting good vision whilst the stitches are still there.
