Good luck!
Errrr.... is that meant to be 5.50 cylinder, rather than five hundred and fifty?
I'm surprised they think that's too high a value to touch - maybe the problem is that one ais is long-sighted (+2) and the other short sighted (+2 - 5.5 = -3.5)???
Have you an Asda near you - or other big supermarket with an optician's at the side?
The one in my local Asda's quoted me prices for the last prescription I had - never got it made up, for various reasons in cluding the cost of new ones every few weeks.
Mind I wasn't sure it was right (trying to do the refraction for it with a sl=plitting headache, most of time couldn't tell which was clearer and which not.
Mine must be about -8 sphere and I guess about -6 cylinder, with the axis varying somewhere around 170-190 degrees.
Maybe if I went back to Asda and spoke to the boss, he'd think that was too expensive for their standard rates.
Mind, I didn't ask about the hyper-thin-ness - maybe that is the problem; most cut-price places won't do superthin??
BTW, did they say WHY contacts were out? - do they think they'd rub on the stitch(es)? AFAIK, most people could wear lenses but would have the same problem as specs - needing new ones with monotonous regularity.
Have you (or they) ever thought of trying sclerals?

Re: My partner's op is in 4 weeks -I need help to help him thru
Hi Rosemary
You are right... It is -5.50.
I have not tried an asda yet, i dont have a big one near me, i am going into kingston today, there are about 10 opticians there i can go to, i will see if there is a big supermarket there.
Opticians with thier own factories like vision express and specsavers have been fine about the prescription, but dont seem to have any glasses i like.
The independants have been giving good advice but say the -5.50 blank is more dificult to come by as it is not standard, i guess i am just not in the 95th%ile of glasses wearers.....
It has been suggested that i go for a standard lens for now, as it will be changing and i need to make sure i can cope with the prescription before properly splashing out on super thins.
I am wearing a scleral now, i am pretty intollerant to them, and dont want to start annoying my transplanted eye with one again. Fenestrations are not an option with my sclerals either apparently. I cant wear lenes until some of the stitches come out, there is still too much of a valley where each stitch is to decently get a lens in. I have been seeing him for 11 years and trust him, so i will just have to wait.....
Tom
I will ley you know how todays shopping trip goes.

SOunds sensible enough a suggestion to me - go for the "ordinary" lenses for now as they're likely to change, and splash out on superthings when they've stablised.
Good luck witht he shopping trip.
