well was back at the hospital today and basically he said the scaring on my cornea had nearly cleared and to leave my lens out for another 2 weeks and then build back into it slowy.

Also had my blood pressure checked due to flashing etc..which is stil there and this was 'ok' at 180 over 40....whatever that means!!

Anyway, hopefully getting an appointment with Dr Stirling in Feb to discuss way forward with new contacts etc.

I currently wear the softperm 'hybrid' lenses which are fine, but he mentioned Rose K lenses..any ideas??

Cheers folks, have a good xmas,
dave.

Paul Bines

I went for my check up this morning at Southend Hospital and I heard your name called as I was waiting to see Mr McAllister. The name rang a bell from this website and just wondered if it was you????? It's been 2 months since my corneal graft and consultant was very pleased with the way I was progressing so I'm happy. How are you doing?

I have not been considered for INTAC treatment. Just had my corneal transplant Op date through for February. I pressume they are still going through the 'redtape' stages of bringing this treatment to the patients. Maybe the department are only still planning rather than conducting INTAC treatment. I hope that my operation woill not cause any problems for when i return to University in September 04. My consultant is Prof H Dua at QMC Nottingham, I have been assured he is the Guru with Eyes, so bring on the Op.......

Hi John,

Last January I had my first graft, having had to put uni on hold in my final year. It went really well. I persuaded the hospital to try me with glasses a couple of months ago, which made a world of difference. I'm currently planning to go back to uni at the end of January, just sorting it all out now. Can't wait to go back. Just to let you know it can all work out! (Although obviously February->September is not a full year like I had). Just got to take it as it comes.

I was told last week that getting my other eye grafted is a long way off, as I can still wear a lens in that eye (although I've had lots of problems with reliability, especially over the summer-haven't really bothered with it since I got glasses) and it appears to have settled down. So I asked about Intacs as an interim measure, only to be told that they would be of little benefit to me. Apparantly, they are most effective in the earlier stages of KC, they are not the interim step between lenses and graft as suggested in earlier posts, and certainly not the cure for KC! (If only). Just deferring the inevitable (in my case at least).

Anyway, keep your CHINS up!

Rob.

Hi again folks,

well i am totall confused now!

Been back to hospital today anout my floaters, flashing lights and a decrease in the quality of my vision.

Dr checked eyes and checked the pressure in them and then placed a large lens into my eye while he looked into it. Said there was some 'spotting' and floaters, but nothing to suggest why my vision is getting worse.

I guess it must be the progression of the KC, as my retina is fine according to him.

Any other sugesstions, I have convinced myself that I am slowly going blind in my left eye!

Cheers,
Dave.

Hello everybody,

just wanted to know if any of you have had refractive/corrective surgery for astigmatism (keratotomy) after corneal grafts. Interested in all good and bad info. Thanks

Jane,
Indeed it WAS me! I saw Mr McAlister too - he had called me around the time of my original appointment date (I had to postpone it!) ans asked if he could see mee next time I Was up at the hospital.
Things are going well - I'm due back in March. No more drops, and the stitches won't be taken out of my regraft (left eye) until later next year. And I only had to spend 2 1/2 hours waiting around, which was a result! You should have introduced yourself - I wouldn't have minded a chat! Au Res.,
Paul

They eventually did my right eye graft on December 12. Everything went well and I have begun my journey back to good eyesight.

All my fears were confounded!

Upirs aye
