Re: KC Genetics
OK... gulp... I don't know if this admission gets me thrown off the group.... but... I HAD TO GOOGLE STIG!!
There. I said it. I had absolutely no idea what Andrew and Gareth were muttering about! I still am not much the wiser but I now know it has to do with testosterone and cars. Nuff said!!
Meanwhile... back at the ranch...
Rosemary.... you are quite right. However, people already are getting really upset by being diagnosed as sub clinical KC by laser refractive surgery clinics - people who would most likely never have been diagnosed in the usual run of events, so really the KC cat is well and truly out of the bag and we all have to start dealing with it. Early detection opens avenues of trying to look at prevention of progression. As eye rubbing is heavily implicated, early detection can help by educating patients to NOT RUB, to just press the eyes or apply cold/hot compresses, whichever give relief. Maybe combined with dry eye treatment, UV protection (sunglasses) and allergy treatment. We have to look at all of this. Regular topography measurement can also give us more idea of how the condition fluctuates. There is much that can be done now that we are all more aware.
