Aout drops......
If you can try to find a way to marking which is which when you can't see the labels - a rubber band round the bottle to tell which is antibiotic for example.
Also be aware that some people can feel very clumsy for a little while after and anaesthetic, and can knock things over easily - I have half a bottle of sterid eye drops soaked into my kitchen floor; I hope this doesn't mean woodworm on performance-enhancing frugs!!!!
NO, seriously ..... that's quite common and wears off quite soon, I gather. Just be a bit careful, remember not to put things too near the edge of tables, etc.

Oh god.
I'm constantly doing that as it is!!
My worst seems tol be my depth perception when grabbing my pint! I have knocked over more than a few pints on friends laps!
Markings are a very good idea. how many drops am i likely to have?

Get yourgood lady to make sure she doesn't leave anything in easy-knocking-over reach.
I had two - steroids (against rejection) initially hourly, gradually reducing), and antibiotics (prophylactically, 4 times a day for a fortnight). I also had some tablets, IIRR 3 times a day.
That's straight after the op.
If you get any infection, or heightened eye pressure, you may get different ones.

Tom,
Better make sure your good lady does not like pints other wise she will also be your designated pint drinker

Hi Melissa
Thank you so much for this reply, your advice has been very helpful.
I have stocked up on vitamins, i even found some stuff called 'Bilberry 5000 and Eyebright' that claims to maintain healthy eyes.
It is very comforting to know that someone close to my age and in a similar profession has come out the other side feeling very positive. I think i am fully prepared (at least for now). I am now faced with the waiting game, an ideal chance to stock up on my audiobooks and comedy radio shows.
A really good idea getting my own vision chart. that is a must!!
Cheers again.

melissa wrote:Hi Tom & Anna,
I had my PK in february (Age 30) and it was very successful. I would suggest:
-i took extra immune system boosters and vitamins and flax seed oil before the operation (can't say if it helped- but no harm i suppose)
-i really worked hard to get everything sorted out at work so that i wasn't bothered too much while at home. i left lots of lists for my colleagues and they did well while i was away- i am an architect- so leaving for 2/3 weeks was a bit tricky (i also didn't have much notice)
-a radio/cd player/ipod. audiobooks are a good idea, and a variety- comedy definately helps break it up a bit
-sunglasses. over the patch when in a car or outside- it cuts out any extra light getting through and 'cos you dont look so stupid.
-i used headphones at night so my partner could sleep. because i slept during the day- i was sometimes awake in the middle of the night
-i printed an eye test chart off the internet- i think there have been a few posted here, and i can email you one if you want to PM me. you sholdn't expect any amazing vision, but i was so curious- having had very little vision in that eye before. you get one for 3m which can be used in a normal room/passage
-stock up on some regular painkillers- the doctor will prescribe something, but i went onto myprodol as i didn't like the ones they gave me (of course i spoke to the doc about it first)
-depending on what type of anaesthetic you have, you may not feel great- so comfort food and lots of love and attention
- i went out a few times, and it drained me- you just have to see how it goes- it depends how you react to the anaesthetic....
after 2 weeks i was fine and back at work full time.
the pain varies... i had severe pain the first night (i was still in hospital- so they helped me through that) and then it was moderate for about 1.5weeks and then mild for another week. then hardly anything since then... in realation to my 'fear of pain' it was nothing....
don't worry too much and relax.

Re: My partner's op is in 4 weeks -I need help to help him thru
HI,
i had a full graft on my left eye in may this year i was in hospital for 1 night which suprised me really because i thought i would be in for at least 2 nights, the first 3 days were ok slight pain, but nothing major, my wife god bless her bathed my eye in the mornings because for the first few days after the op it seemed to be stuck closed, i think it was because of the stuff they put into the eye during the op, anyway don't worry after about a week it gets easier, i had no problems watching the tv, but didn't go on my pc for a while didn't lift anything for at least 3 weeks and then i was really careful about what i lift even now nearly 4 months after op, everything is fine with the eye vision is improving the stiches are still in and i still go back to the hospital every 4 weeks for a check up, the only concern they had was the pressure in the eye which they gave me drops to treat this to go with my steroid drops
i am sure everything will go ok for your hubby's op should you have any questions about the op and need to speak to me about it just pm me and i will give you my number
cheers
Russ

Re: My partner's op is in 3 Days -I need help to help him thru
Cheers for all the advice,
I managed to find a bloke at work that gave me a mini fridge to keep my plethre of drops in, i also went out on a little indulgence, and got an ipod with loads of audiobooks and BBC podcasts of comedy radio shows.....Should see me through. Got the 2005 and 2007 Conference DVDs, watched the part about grafts, luckily did not freak me out too much, just my parents and anna to show now! Been T-Total for a week, drinking fruit juice and been eating healthily in preperation etc....I am ready:!:
The op has come round very quickly since this was first posted.....3 days to go, i am admited monday the 13th oct at 7:30am. Please everyone wish me luck
As soon as i can return to the computer (or anna) i will let everyone know how it is all going. Can i upload photos to this site? If not does anyone know of a good free blog site where i can document my progress?
