To be honest I feel this board and site has good people and the information and postings are largely excellent and kind of helps us all; added to the fact that we get KP etc posting and others keeping things up to date.
To top it all off the backing at its visibility at the Hospital etc gives it good exposure
I do feel however that the board needs to change with User names and passwords and profiles. It would be ideal if we could get something like http://www.ezboard.com/ or another more controlled board; I see this a better way to control the more chldish posts we have seen of recent.
Maybe this is one for the Main Men to decide. I know id be happy to pay someting to get it started as hosting etc will cost a little but not that much

Well the registration and hosting of a web site to use as a forum only would be £30-£40 for 2 years, that includes registration with NomiNet.
The Forum software is free, and very easy to set up and use. It can be locked and set to have an authorisation system for new members.
Time , well the web design is negligible and all you'd need is a welcome page linked to the Forums.
Running and looking after is it free as well as long as there is someone to moderate the Forums.
I can lock mine at any time if it gets used and it's felt necessary to do so until the charity gets its own sorted out and set up, the posts can be transferred over so none will be missing when it starts as well.
Not saying its needed or not just supplying some information

so all in all washing-up liquid is as good as using contact lens cleaning liquids and it kills all known germs dead, right ?
Why are people so scared of me asking these questions ?
I am sure lots of people want to know !
It was you guys who started this topic, not me, and now you want to "brush it under the carpet".

hello
just thought i would write a message on here as i am starting to get a bit confused with all these different sites being mentioned and also i have read some messages on here over the past few weeks it hasnt really been pleasant ....the postings on 'the washing up saga' is getting abit silly now.
if you ask for peoples advice/comments and opinions then you dont have to take it .. people offer advice/opinions etc as we are probably the best to ask and know what it is like, and able to share experiences.
on many occassions i have used the site and recieved many replies and some excellent advice . infact after my transplant this site was a complete god send.
i hope the bickering on this site hasnt stopped new members from reading postings .

Regarding this forum: All I can say right now is:
WATCH THIS SPACE!
The QuickTopic board has served us well for quite a while now, but there are a number of problems with it - a major one is that it is more than a little divorced from the main web site.
When I got the job of webmaster, apart from the tidy of the site itself, the forum was foremost in my mind. Hopefully, the new forum will be released on an unsuspecting public (err... that means you!) in the next couple of weeks, and the Quicktopic will closed down.
We'll certainly have the ability to sign in and have a site password, which will hopefully overspill to the main site itself for controlled access to documents for KC group members.
Whilst the spit and polish is being applied to the site, please let me know (by email to john@roundel.net, or to this topic) if you have any ideas that you'd like to see implemented in the new forum. Who knows, it may not be too late!
Before anyone starts to panic though, accessability is a key part of the work I'm doing. Web and email access using plain text is right at the top of the list.
As for Dave's site, I've certainly not got any objections in you running your own site/forum/anything else, but we have to be very careful about cross-promotion. As a registered charity, we have to be careful about making recommendations.

I HAVE KERATOCONUS, PRETTY BAD IN MY LEFT EYE, MILD IN THE RIGHT. I HAVE BEEN FITTED WITH GAS PERMEABLE LENSES BUT TIME AND TIME AGAIN THE FIT IS UNCOMFORTABLE, EITHER POPPING OUT OR IRRITATING ME. FIRST, DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A KERATOCONUS SPECIALIST,MD AND A SPECIALIST FOR CONTACT LENSES FOR KERATACONUS PATIENTS. I AM OUT OF NEW YORK AT ALBSURE14@CS.COM
Hi John,
I think the new forum can take some ideas and improve on the way the american web-site (Kcenter.org) is set out.
Also I am sorry to everyone about going on about the washing up liquid issue but I did trully want to know more about it. I think there is no-one who acually knows all the answers who is willing to come on this forum to explain.
Where else could I go to find out more than the place where I first heard it from (and that never really worked)
Thanks, to everyone who did try to explain.

Hello everybody
Although I have not posted before I have found this forum to be very informative and supportive. I live in Australia so I am not a member of the UK group. I do hope if you change to another form of forum that you will allow me to continue to receive posts :-)
My name is Daryl I am 41 and have KC in both eyes but mutch worse in the right eye. I ware an RGP lens in my left eye. I am a member of Keratoconus Australia but at this time they don't have forums such as this or the US link.
cheers
Daryl

The only thing that hurts more than paying income tax
is not having to pay income tax.

You are quite right! I do medical research and I can assure people that almost all the advice from the professionals is their opinion based on their experience and what they were taught, just as much of our discussion here is our opinion based on our experience. Very little in medicine is actually proven beyond doubt. Hence the discussion between two professionals (who some of you will know well) when I first went to Oxford Eye Hospital discussing what solutions to use with ?scleral lenses: one said hard lens solutions, the other soft lens solutions!
The professionals have lots of experience seeing what happens to patients; we have lots of experience actually coping with our particular brand of KC. Both are valid opinions, but if in doubt, go with the professionals!
