That sounds about like what happened to me - my first 2 hydrops were complete "white-outs" and couldn't see anything for about a month.
Then the mist started to clear from the edges first, and after about 6 weeks I could see all the way across.
The second one, there was a little bit of mistiness left for a few months - or possible, a bit of scarring that is still there, but my brain got used to it and didn't notice it any more after a few months.
I was lucky enough not to have injected steroids, nor cream to apply to itso don't know what difference that would mke.
It can vary a fair bit between individuals, depending on how big the split inthe membrane was, how fast their metabolism clears away the fluid in the wrong place, etc.
But sounds quite familiar.
As for swimming - personally it wouldn't stop me swimming. THough not all mdics may agree ....
THe biggest problem for eyes with swimming is generally the risk of infections getting into the eye along with dirty water. I've never been pone to infections of the eye, nor y sort of infection from swimming, so maybe I'm lucky.
One thing to be slightly careful about : if he's not used to swimming with one eye all blurry from a hydrops, he might find it hard to spot all the other swimmers in the pool around him, and swim right into someone else by mistake.
