Thanks Dave for the vote of confidence(good luck in your exams to)-i had my first history as level exam today, it took me ages to realise what was written on the board like the start time and end time but you have to laugh or otherwise you'll cry!!Walking to college this morning was horrendous, as if i can't see very well at the best of times but with the rain all over glasses i think i should invest in some windscreen wipers.

Please help if U cn. I am writing for my son (now 42 yrs old) He was diagnosed with KC when he was 18. He hasn't been successful in getting any help. Nothing worked 4 him. He last went 2 Moorfield 10 yrs ago. I came up with the idea that just maybe if someone somewhere could make some kind of "half a golf-ball'shaped glasses, which would mean that he wouldn't have to have them in his eyes. (not poss. cos' of eczema.) I just thought something like this might at least help him read better if they were goggle shape instead of flat. Anyone have an opinion on this?

firstly sorry about the long message, i replied by email and it tagged the whole lot on the end!!
Laura, i know the feeling as far as the bad sight goes, until i got my contacts i was waiting for three months to see the hospital and during this time my eye sight got to 5the stage where i had stopped driving, and really couldnt see. I had my old glasses on yesterday for an hour or two just to give my eyes a rest from contacts and i realised how bad it had been!!
i dont know if you have seen a contact lens fitting yet but trust me its absoultly brilliant when you get them and you can see again, so its something to look forward to.

(ps if it is relly that bad then tell the school and they should be able to make sure you are at the front or at least get a copy of the information! it always worth asking)

Actually Dave my collage has been really good,well some lecturers anyway.It seems that my eyes are not actually as bad as some, i just hate the thought that they are going to get worse quickly. Don't the contacts hurt or itch my eyes get really sensitive quickly so i don't know if they would be good for me.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry it took so long to get back. Well my German Oral is over much to my relief! I did ok and I was pleased to get my roleplays in larger print, they were a great help. Fortunately I wasn't looking were I was going coming out of the exam and fell down three steps right infront of my English teacher! Anyway I get off on study leave today and my next exam is next wed (German Listening).
I was at the hospital in Derry yesterday to see the specialist and was told that I would be more suitable for a transplant in the next few years. They told me about a new procedure called 'Deep something Keratoplasty' has anyone heard of this? I'm getting my new lenses AFTER my exams so I have to proceed with my glasses, - lucky me.Anyway talk to you all soon!

hi all, just to let u know that i have submited my disertation question! 'The factors affecting the diagnosis and prognosis of keratoconus' My lecturer has agreed to it and all that remains is for him to specify exactly what he needs me to do! I would like to thank everyone for helping with your suggestions, hopefully i will be able to incorporate most of them in my work. Thanks so much! I will let you know when i need help with patient research. Hopefully this will help everyone!

Anne,

Very much appreciate the work you and others have done with providing the written copy of the Conference proceedings but I would be happy to see this in electronic (MS Word / PDF) format for download from the website. This would save the printing/postage costs.

Along the same lines could we do similar with the Newsletter ?

Sajeev, I've been wearing kerasoft lenses since last summer and now find them a lot more comfortable than RGP.My eyesight was very temperamental for the first few months because the lenses kept drying up, which meant that I just saw through a haze at times. I was assured that in time that things would improve and settle.The lenses are usually okay for up to 6 hours now which is longer than I could wear RGP's, and my vision had improved according to my optician when I saw him last week.
The only thing I dislike about them is that they are blue and quite visible because they are bigger than the cornea, plus my eyes have an imprint of the lenses when I take them out, probably due to dry eyes
It is worth trying the lenses is RGP are too uncomfortable to wear. I'm now getting good vision with them.

sorry it took so long to reply, busy finishing off the assignments for the end of term before the exams start!
I have been realy lucky as my eyes have taken well to contacts, i understand that many people have problems to start with and some persist.
When i first tried contacts my eyes didnt react so i guess i was very lucky.
I have progressed quite quickly in my left eye, and my glasses are all but useless, so i where contacdts all day and because you have to you get used to them.
