I agree with John here...the reason why I had to have my transplant was because of a scar on the cornea!

I am assuming that Tim is referring to the white streaks on the cornea which are scars?

Andrew,

I have every confidence in them because I phoned in advance for advice and was asked to go to casualty. When I got there an expalined the situation and told them I had called earlier, I was straight in and had a two hour investigation.

It looks slightly worse today but probably because I can see better today and what the doctor described he saw was exactly what I could see now.

The hospital is very laid back, but they put the patient at ease and do explain everything in detail.

It hard to put everything in contect in a brief posting, but thanks for the concern.

Gareth

You've got to admire hospitals that do not make dramas our of a crisis. (can't remember which Insurance company used this as a slogan!)

All the best

Andrew

PS Tim, has any of this been any use to you?

I have a lot of scarring on my left eye, or rather did have as that is why i had a graft done recently! I could never see it but was unable to wear a lens for this reason. I am not sure about white scars either and have never heard about it, my guess would be an old ulcer or scarring from lenses? Not really sure though, maybe you need to go to ask your optometrist? Do you wear any lenses now?

Andrew, It was Commercial Union.

As a former insurance broker I can tell you that of course they could not live up to that slogan. They were just as fallible as any other insurer.

Thanks Michael. Of course it was CU. Whatever happened to them?

Being too blind to know wot scarring I have if any.....

I did read a while ago that there was a corneal tattoo process which will cover the scar up although not improve the attainable vision.

Googling with Screan readers is no fun so I'll leave it to the Cyber Geeks amongst you

Drew

Try this site

http://encyc.bmezine.com/?Eyeball_Tattooing

Sounds really gruesome! As Drew suggests this procedure is enthirely cosmetic and can restore a normal appearance to an eye that has, in the terminology, gone "grey".

Rob has asked me to post this - before and after shots of his grafted eye. You can certainly see the bulge has gone post-graft, but the layman would probably not have noticed it in the first place!
