I love Paris.

At one time I thought of studying there, I ever took myself over and lived ther efor a bit. Some Italian tourists thought i was local, and insisted that they ought to have their photo taken with me.

their French was poor, my Italian was nonpexistant, so the easiest thing was to stand with them while our photos were taken 8)

Afterwards it did occur to me that I could charge money for the service, but nobody else asked!

Enjoy your visit to Paris. I used to live near the blvd Lafayette.

Why did they think you were french, Andrew?

Were you riding a bike in a beret and a blue-and-white-striped jersey with a string of onions around your neck? :D

I guess I must have 'looked' French.

I was smoking Galoise.

I was dressed informally in tee shirt and denim.

I was probably talking rather loudly in French

Maybe I just looked at home. They didn't say.

Many years later another total stranger came up to me after a Guildhall Dinner in London and asked if she and her family could be photographed with me. But on that occasion I was wearing my kilt.

One other thing occurs to me. I keep being mistaken for clive james. But that's a whole different story. Maybe people say to him, 'You look exactly like Andrew MacLean', but I doubt it :D

Maybe they were just amazed to see Clive James in London... in a kilt!

A sight to behold

Well, yes. I think I'm growing into a Clive James lookalike. There's more of me around my middle than there used to be, and less hair on top.

I remember he used to be preoccupied with the way his head stuck out at the back (unlike James Garner's head that goes straight up from his neck). I think mine stickes out a bit, too.

The kilt thing was funny. We had all enjoyed a wonderful dinner in Guildhall, with a wonderful lot of Guildhall wine. I was making my way back to the cloakroom. The woman who made the approach was evidently from North America. I don't think she mistook me for Mr James, but that she was a little overwhelmed at seeing a gentleman out in polite company in a skirt :D

I duly posed, and forgot once again to ask for cash :?

Some time I must wear my kilt in Paris and see what happens.

Maybe Pont Neuf, on the Isle de Cité end would be a good place to stand. Or, over the river at the Palais de Louvre just beside one of the fountains outside the glass pyramid.

I wonder if Jayboi will take a kilt, maybe not as he seems to be from Manchester or somewhere else in the 'south' (Georgraphy is such a relative science).

And so say all of us. And French is not all that hard to learn. When you are in Paris, speak no english. Only speak French, if you can't think of the right word, point and look lost. They will say the French word for you, repeat it, they will correct your pronunciation, repeat it again.

next time you want that word, it will come with a Paris accent. Soon you will find your confidence growing.

This would be a good time of the year for people with KC in Paris. The sun isn't too high.

Faite un bon journée
