Off topic but in Yorkshire, I'll be peforming a dance at Bradford University later in the year, the event will be free, so if you want to see it, put your contacts in and message me for details which I'll have sometime soonish. We can talk eyes over a cuppa afterwards if you want.

KC in Yorkshire

Postby Helen Turner » Tue 21 Feb 2006 9:00 am

Rowan,
That was a surprise as i live in Beverley. Who was your consultant at Hull Royal? Was it a Mr Stewart, he's pretty nice. I'm on regular visits with Mr Melia, contact lens guru at Hull Royal. I'm surprised he hasn't given up on me and my scleral lenses as they are just taking an age to get right. gotta go think i've found another air bubble....

Helen, you can get hold of Elizabeth by sending her a PM (this link). It will also be worth having a chat with Anne Klepacz.

Rowan

Good to hear from you, and all the best at the Yorkshire meeting.

If you want to "chat" on line about the procedure that you have had reccomended, go back to the index and click "new topic" button. Type something like "been told I need a graft" into the subject line and in the text box explain something about your experience with KC and what you were told at the Hospital.

It won’t be long before folk have started to share their experience and offer any insights.

All the best

KC in Yorkshire

Postby Rowan Whymant » Tue 21 Feb 2006 12:41 pm

Helen,
Yep. It was a certain Mr.Stewart who recommended the operation. Should have it done soon really. I saw the Optician beforehand and he referred me to the surgeon so i guess my KC has gone beyond the lenses/contacts stage?

Anyway, i live in Tickton.Sure you've heard of it.

that was a bit scary

That was a bit scary. I live about 5 mins from Tickton. I was told by my lens guy that there was a long wait for grafts at the moment, not sure if the waiting time has reduced by now. I may well have been referred myself by now but for the persistance of my contact lens guru Mr Melia. Have you seen him at all? The consultant said he would happily refer me for a graft and that was about 2 years ago and i'm still trying the contact lens route holding off the graft path for as long as poss. Have you tried ALL lens options?

Mr.Melia

Postby Rowan Whymant » Wed 22 Feb 2006 5:33 pm

If Mr.Melia is the Head Optometrist bloke with the big round office next to the outpatients waiting area, then I have but if not i haven't.

Sorry.I cannot remember the name of the Head Optician/Optometrist.He is slim, quite tall and in his fifties with thinning brown hair. Not the best description! Oh well.

I've got Mr.Stewart's secretary number so i should give her a ring and book an appointment to see Mr.Melia.

A few weeks ago, the waiting list was 8-9months compared to 3-4 months previously due to lack of donor corneas.
