Hi,

I had chicken pox when i was a child, not sure about measles. I also suffer from asthma, hayfever & was a serial rubber. I have been told that the rubbing is a major factor in KC but nothing has been told in regards to the asthma & other allergies. Normally if you suffer from asthma then you'll most likely to have hayfever &/or exema.

My father had his cornea grafts in 1876 & 1977 he's been fine ever until recently. He now wearrs the scerel lenses. My younger brother also had a graft in his right eye in 2001 he is also fine witih contacts. We have looked back & are putting the elder generations vision problems down to KC as the did mention light distortion, double vision etc.... It is hard for us to fully research into their conditions as they never kept records.

My parents are cousins, which is obviously a major contributor to the fact we have a strong presence of KC in the family. We are also going through the genetic research at Moorfields. Anything to advance the knowledge of KC we should all contribute as much as we can. We are to benefit as well as save the future generations suffering from lack of knowledge & difficulties like we have.
Ive had 4 graft rejections in right eye. I'm intolerable to lens in my left eye. Been 2yrs Ive learnt to live life with single ocular vision and I enjoy everyday as I have KC in my left eye. I live to enjoy everyday as it comes with my wife and children.

I think that there is a link between asthma and eczema and KC. Whether the A&E cause the KC or if the A&E are caused by the same source, nobody really knows.

Also eye-rubbing appears to be high amongst KC sufferers. However again, nobody really knows whether we rub our eyes because they itch, because there's something wrong with our corneas; or whether the rubbing is actually causing the KC.
John
